Over both legs against Roma we created enough chances to do better, Warren's view after last night was we could have won over the two matches if we had taken them. OK yes overall they were better than us but we are struggling to score at the mo. RDZ was asked about it pre match & he went a bit Gus, précis of what he said, "I can show them how to create chances but I can't score for them".
OK we are missing Pedro, March & Mutoma but we should have converted more of our chances last night. Evan is seriously out of form at the mo & maybe would benefit from a break from the first team. We get free headers which are not even on target, this has been a theme for a while. Shots to row Z. A lack of composure in front of goal. We seem to have gone through patches like this. What is the answer?

Some very good headed chance went begging last night, I was pleased were at least creating some opportunities.

No Pedro, no Mitoma (no March) really does diminish our ability to score. That said there were some very good crosses last night which did not reap the reward they deserved. Keep plugging away like that and goals will return.

True, maybe we should be scoring more, but missing Mitoma, March & Pedro is quite a big thing. Being underestimated what a loss that is. Plus Enciso & Fati only just back from injuries. & missing Adingra during Afcon. If for example you took the Spurs squad (a bigger more expensive one than ours) and took away Son, Kulusevski, & Richarlison, and Maddison & Johnson were only just back from big injuries, do you think Spurs scoring rate be the same? Not a chance. Yes the back ups would score some, but no way near as many, that’s why they’re back ups.

A front pairing of Welbz and The Lana isn't generating 4 goals.
As @Hotchilidog says so many headed chances went begging, but not only that actual shots weren't taken.

Igor thunders one in from 20 yards, in the pouring rain, the keeper can only push it out and Adingra (?) fluffs the rebound.
A bit more of that was needed, if only to draw out Roma by a couple of yards.

I can't remember Evan missing anything he should have last night but Adingra managed to head straight at the keeper from about 3 yards.

However, you and @Hotchilidog are both right to point out we're missing Pedro and Mitoma. Pedro has 19 goals in all competitions. The next highest is 7. Mitoma has our second highest number of assists with 5 despite playing one game for us this year. There's your issue in a nutshell.

No pace in our play for a long while now.

Not just in the personnel, but in the speed of passing.
It's all got very pedestrian lately

It's simple - we don't shoot enough and we don't create enough CLEAR chances. The latter is down to the players that we have out.
Last night from 60 mins we should have been shooting on sight, look at the chaos Igor caused as an example. The worst culprit last night was Pascal, especially 2nd half.
The only real 'chance' that we squandered was Adringa's header (feck me he had to score that).
Cannot fault the effort and desire last night though, on and off the pitch, we got some pride back.

Sigh

Undav doesn't want to be in this country, which is why he left.
Sigh

Undav signed a contract with a club in this country

Sigh

He's accepting wages over and above what Stuttgart would pay him if he wasn't on loan.

If RDZ wants the lad back, he'll be back. But I don't think he does.

Too many of our attacking players are out form.

Even Mitoma wasn't in good form before his injury.

Pedro is more or less the only consistent goalscorer and without him, the rest of the team can't compensate.
We lack the guile to break down a determined defence. Needs a dedicated free kick specialist to break down that particular barrier

I think given that so many of our chances come from wide areas, we've got to do better with the huge number of crosses into the box.

Fergie was never close to any of them, Welbz missed a sitter, nobody else can seemingly get a header on target and our use of the second ball (which we won quite often) is pretty awful (see Gilmour and row z).

A discussion focused on the number of chances created, and missed, for headed goals. And nobody's mentioned Hinshelwood? I'd add that to Mioma, March and Pedro. Plus Ferguson out of form. All adds up to 'no mystery why we aren't scoring as many as we did at the start of the season'.
I'd say.
