According to the official site he is going in for a hernia op today or tomorrow.

Lucky we've got a few points in the bag as he has been inspirational and I doubt we will continue to look so solid without him. When is Butter's back? Soon I hope ,as we are now going to have a very very young and inexperienced side until they are back.

Bit worrying imo, wonder if some of the budget will go on loan central defenders to tide us over.

What is the average recovery time from a hernia op, anyone know?

If it is keyhole surgery it shouldn't be long at all but if it requires open surgery then at least six weeks.

I think this has been timed for Butters to be back, as he was hoping to be fit for last night.

Its a good time for the operation, Butters is coming back and there are the Internationals in October, so we have a 2 week break.

I had a hernia op about 7 years ago. I was back at work a week later. However I did not play any sport for 3-4 weeks. It's painful for the first 3 or 4 days then it's a matter of taking it easy.

Yes. six weeks surprises me. I had a hernia op. two years ago and was only signed off for two weeks (although I don't do any physical work). I was very stiff for about a week but after that it was just recovery. I'm sure I was told I could do anything after four weeks.

It does depend on what type of hernia it is. Mine was an inguinal hernia which required open surgery. This is the more serious and I assume Danny's is the same. There is a less serious "sports" or Gibson's hernia which is also in the groin but which is a tear rather than a rupture. This sometimes heals on its own, as it did with Paul Scoles.

So, I would hope Danny is back in about a month. At least this is an area of the team where we have good coverage (Virgo, Hinsch, El-Abd when he is fit).

In March last year I underwent an umbilical hernia repair and had two weeks off work. I was back to normal (well, as normal as can be for me) when I went back. For a footballer with all the treatment available I would have thought 3-4 weeks out.
