Crystal Palace have tried to sign "20 to 30 players" during the transfer window, says manager Sam Allardyce.

Sunderland defender Patrick van Aanholt is "very close" to joining the Eagles after the two clubs agreed a deal for the Netherlands international that could be worth as much as £14m.

Allardyce said he hoped to sign two players before the transfer window closes at 23:00 GMT on Tuesday."

Exactly. Funny how Newcastle went down the shitter after Pardew left as well isn't it? They needed to invest in ground and training fascilities when they were promoted to assure them of Prem status, but they have missed the window of opportunity. Big Sam won't get them out of trouble because he has lost his mojo from the England sacking which makes it harder to win over his players. Fighting relegation with a depressed manager is doomed.
