Crucial dropped points in this season, should promotion already have been in the bag?

Not trying to be negative at all. Should we be up already?

With Hemed's Penalty miss at Wolverhampton. +3 intstead of +1
Derby comeback after us being 2 - 1 up +3 instead of +1
QPR comeback after us being 2 -0 up +3 instead of +1
Burnley 2-2 - not bothering to attempt to disect that one!

So 6 extra points we could/should have had? Any games that the momentum has swung our way? Maybe yesterday an extra point?

But at least we're not out of it yet! A great away day victory next Saturday, and this thread can sink into oblivion! :rave:

Not being able to beat the 5 teams around us more than once, so far, over the course of the season is where is has impacted the most IMO. We can rectify that with a win on Saturday hopefully.

You could say the same about Middlesbrough though; they managed to lose to Charlton when their manager had a hissy fit. If he'd kept his head, they'd be three points clear now.

So many 'if onlys' over the course of a season

No. We've got 88 points which would be more than enough most years. We've gained points we probably shouldn't and lost points we probably shouldn't.

On Dec 1st we were in a very good position then had a bad December and early January when we lost it.The most recent points drop was conceding the late goal at The Amex to Burnley 2 more points to us and 1 less to them would have mad an immense difference.

Exactly, we have been really unlucky that there have been two other teams this year up there with us. You can argue Fulham was 2 points gained, as was Leeds and of course Forest so that's 6 points straightaway

Just far enough away from LDC
I would say the comeback against Charlton, the late winner at Fulham, the missed pen at mk dins, the late equaliser yesterday, late winner at Leeds and late winner at forest probably more than balance it all out

Meh. That's football. If we hadn't dropped any points this season we'd be on 135 points already. Every team drops points, we just have to make sure that after Boro, we've dropped less points than them.

Anyone know the highest points total to NOT get automatic? We could end up with 89 and not go up automatically.

If if if.... Had we only lost 2-0 at home to Boro rather than 3-0 we would be sitting in 2nd spot needing a draw on Saturday.
Very small margins.....

In the 'swings and roundabouts' stakes, I think it's all pretty much evened out.

A little rub of the green on Saturday won't go amiss though...

Exactly right. Worth noting that if MK Dons had scored that last-minute penalty we'd be two points down and already out of automatic contention. Ok they didn't - but if Sidwell hadn't got that last-minute winner at Forest we'd still be out of it. Over the course of a season all teams gain or lose points that they "shouldn't" have. Typical one-eyed football fans only ever see one side of it.
