Criticism of Poyet

Yes, he makes mistakes, he is only human, but we should consider the following:

1) We all saw our biggest problem as leaking goals and an inconsistent back four

Well, we have consistency at the back now, still a couple of mistakes but 8 goals in 8 league games is better than the 2/3 a game we were conceding before by miles.

2) Peripheral players needed to be taken off wage bill

Livermore and McLeod both shipped out, Davies and Dickinson not scoring so sent out on loan - better that than rot in reserves.

3) We desperately needed a left winger

In comes Lua Lua on loan - time will tell if this is a good signing, but he is prepared to veer away from the 3 centre midfield players which most people seemed to think he wouldn't

4) Improvement in players

I think everyone would agree the vast improvement in El Abd, Virgo, Crofts and Navarro under Poyet - at the start of the season each of these were described as **** whereas now they are consistently among our best players each week.

5) Disciplinary Problems

7 sent off before Poyet - only 1 since... says everything on its own. Also the Forster situation shows he is not willing to take any crap off anyone and will stamp his authority.

Yes, we are in the relegation zone, but everyone can see the team is improving with every game and the results will come - the key is stabliity (Just look at how that has improved our defence), the same applies to the manager. Give him time, it will come good, I have no doubt about that.

5 Very good points, very well made.

The 1 point that we can't include yet is that we don't sodding win. But that will change (I hope...)

All good points well made. I'm still disillusioned with our results, but Poyet does seem to be making some positive changes.

Would agree with most of that but we are short of strikers so until that is rectified I cannot understand the logic in loaning out Dickinson. If a replacement materialises this week then fine.

we have to remember that
Bloom - his first ever football chairman job
Poyet - his first ever football manager job
Tarrico - his first ever football assistant job
Oatway - his first ever first team coach job
Loads of the squad (if not the majority) are in their first full season or first season at the club too

It all takes time to gel, but I think we thought it would be faster than this

Agree totally. Infact, can't really see how you could argue against any of those points especially if a more effective replacement comes in for Dickinson....like Nicky Forster!

Points very well made and by the others adding as well. Completely agree.

Give it time.

People that expect instant success when you look at the state we were in are having a laugh. I'm an optimist but know this is gonna take time

Far too many delusional football experts on here who seem to think they know more about the game than he does......I'm sure he would'nt go into their job and tell them how to sweep up!
If these people are such experts and have a far superior knowledge of the game, where was their application for the job when it was vacant?
Everyone is entitled to an opinion obviously, but think the slagging off is getting pathetic and people need to have a serious think about what they are saying. We have finacial security for the first time in about 15 years and a manager with the potential to deliver in time...given the chance!!!
If you think you are better qualified then send your CV to Tony Bloom!

You need to differentiate between those slagging of Poyet (probably a very small minority from what I can tell) and those that have questioned some of his decisions. I fall in the latter but definitely do not want to see a change of manager.

the one positive we had in banging in the goals though looks like it might have been dismantled

This is the crucial thing. On Saturday, Norwich were managed by someone who has learned at Wycombe and Colchester. Leeds have a manager who learned at Blackpool, Charlton's was successful at Colchester and failed at Hull and Swindon have Danny Wilson with his vast experience. Gus Poyet is learning and won't get everything right. Home matches have been very frustrating but he hasimproved the defence and the disciplinary record.
Miserabilist threads with attention-seeking titles aren't really helping and they get Mr Naylor on the case. Some players are influenced by what they read on message boards like Bobby Z at Fulham. Lets not forget that a strong character like Guy Butters came on here to argue against the moaners.

If being called a miserabilist is what you get for watching your team have the worst home record in the league then fair enough. What I don't accept is to be gagged by people who seem to think you have to walk around with an inane smile.

Not if it costs us points. 2 soft goals v norwich cost us points, soft goal v orient cost as 2 points, single goal v millwall cost us a point. One goal isn't any better than 3 if you don't score. Most of these goals are coming from silly defensive errors. Which is a problem we've had all season. Early in the season we blamed the inconsistent line up, we don't have that anymore, but we still have silly errors.

Your other points are spot on though.

massive 2 games coming up...seem to love it away from home the team set's up well to perform. Need to have belief to take the few chances we get and also to defend and focus for 90 minutes. Poyet is an exciting charachter and all interviews speak very well of a manager learning his trade, about the players and whats best for the club
