Upper Dicker, Lower Dicker?

Locally to us we have a hamlet called Gay Street, and a road called The Juggs.

Elsewhere, Pratts Bottom, Six Mile Bottom, Thong, and of course, in Pennsylvania they have a town called Intercourse.

There's a couple of Twatt's in the UK - one in the Shetlands, and one in Orkney.

Also in Worcestershire there's a Bell End.

I can only assume that it was named after some boys what was black, innit.

Although the sensible explanation would have been a connection with the charcoal industry in the area.
Correct ... it's a charcoal industry connection. But it's nothing to do with boys. It's "Black Wood", from the French "bois".

Dorset is full of places with "rude" names. Shitterton (on the River Piddle) is probably top of the list.

The locals got fed up with people stealing the village sign, so they've built a new one out of a ton and a half of Purbeck stone.

Up until 1982, Hwange in Zimbabwe was called Wankie. .

....and I have been there several times, up near Victoria Falls......I used to throw it into family dinner time conversations just to provoke a reaction from my old man........lol

....provoking reactions is what I do best,.... now where is today's Barnes thread.
