Great stuff from Sidders. I really can't remember the last time Vaughan did anything remotely useful with the bat, captain or not his place must be in doubt.

A bizarre day of cricket - at 100 for 1 Fleming was looking awesome then he and his teammates gave a display of batting fit for the village green. Sidebottom bowled well but NZ were poor. In reality the batting in this test has been poor KP aside. Hopefully we'll kick on and bat all day tomorrow.

What would be a big enough total to win this for England.

Effectively 163-2 at the moment. Ideally we'd want to bat all day tomorrow but that seems unlikely. So a target lead of 300? Would that be enough?

I would hope that we will bat all day and put on another 280- 300 but fear that with 2 days left after that a total of 450 may not be enough. I know it would need them to create a world record 4th innings score to win but they do have the batsmen that could do it and records are there to be broken. So in retrospect I would rather that we scored slower and was still in bat for part of the the morning of the 4th day to avoid possible defeat. Negative I know but we wouldnt lose the series then.

450 odd should be enough as they will make mistakes.

450 means scoring another 300 runs. Might be too for for this fragile batting line up.

My guess is that we'll get to 300-320 lead and then have to scrap. The one upside is that NZ batting can be pretty flaky too, but 320 doesn't feel like a comfortable lead.

I back us to get between 300 and 330 in our 2nd innings which should give us plenty of runs to attack and take wickets. We should be looking to bat at least two sessions tonight.
