At the foot of the downs
Ashes for me :)

The way this Ashes series is capturing the national imagination, I reckon the best thing for Sussex cricket would be a series victory for the Test side and flocks of new cricket fans being sufficiently enthused to put a regular day at Hove into their calendars.

A tight finish in both the County Championship and the One Day competition looks to be on the cards for the end of this season, and that will also help.

I'll settle for the One Day Division Two championship, top three in the County Championship and big crowds next season.

Indeed, increased exposure is a good thing. 20/20 is another reason why people are getting excited about cricket. The chance to pop along after work to watch 3 hours of fast flowing cricket is a definite plus point.

So given that cricket is on the crest of a wave, you'd have to be a total DICK to greedily take the money from the highest paying broadcaster if that was going to severely limit exposure of the game to the public. Obviously they won't do that then.

It seems the ECB now want the cricket back on terrestrial tele after the Sky deal runs out. f***ing goons shouldn't have crumbled in the first place.

The Ashes, as it only comes here every four years.

The next series starts in November 2006 actually, but still the Ashes, for sure. Who remembers who were county champions in 1986 when Gatting lifted the Ashes?

WARNING: Sleep deprived ramble alert

Dunno until it happens

What I do know is that seeing Sussex lift the county championship trophy was very very special - but, been there done that.

hopefully the Ashes will go down to the last day at the Oval and they'll do something similar to Old Trafford yesterday - for safety's sake - I'll be queing from the close of day 4. Started queing yesterday morning at 7 am-ish and the ground looked a good 80% full when I took my seat

highlight of the morning - a steward letting me in with two bottles of gin (not all for me) - saying strictly speaking I wasn't allowed them but he thought I might need them

The BASTARD that was supposed to be giving me his ticket for day 3 at the Oval now reckons he's going to sell the ticket on EBay - his wife is due to drop their firstborn around the day of the game and he's now got dollar signs in his eyes - there is a distinct chance that I'm going to tell him to stick his request for me to be godfather right up his JACKSY

the ECB have really shot themselves in the foot selling out to Sky - as predicted by pevenseagull early this year - the profile of cricket is as high as it's been since '81 and now it's going to be lost to casual viewers - silly pricks

Reluctantly it has to be the Ashes. That would be England's greatest sporting truimph since 1966. How we would enjoy watching the Aussies dealing with the loss.

I'll take Sussex in the top 3 if we get back the Ashes.

I love my footie but ain't cricket great too?

Ashes without a shadow of a doubt, one day league this year for Sussex, both one day and county champs next year. :)
