Hi All

Hardly the weather to think about cricket but I am looking for a club / grounds in or near to Brighton that have two adjacent squares. I am looking to stage an eight a side charity day with ex test cricketers, having two matches running simultaneously.

Way back in my day the 80's Preston Park used to have multiple matches, not sure if this is still the case.

Many thanks for your help.

I want to know more about potentially taking a day off work in the summer...or is ti a corporate event?

This. Probably pretty much booked out to longtime tenants. Tho you never know eh?

Going for a midweek daytime so hopefully it will generate a better choice of venues 😊

If this is to be an "event" [and not just a game of cricket] then somewhere like Preston Park or East Brighton Park will not be so good as a club with two pitches that has decent bar and changing facilities, covers, scoreboards, etc.

Do Sussex colts still use Blackstone [Allfield?] ground - might find availability better there than at a club ground. Give Sussex Cricket Board a call ....

Edit:
Bit of an after-thought; if you're getting ex-test players in for a one-day tournament, then it will most-likely be white-ball cricket. Few clubs have black sight-screens [yet] so this may limit your choice.
Reason I raise this, my county u14 boys are playing all their ECB & festival cricket this season in coloured clothing and using a white ball [for the first time] which is making the task of finding host-grounds a bit of a challenge [ECB comp regs - must have black sight-screens]

UPDATE: And a repurposing of the event:

Hi, just gauging views of clubs on this. This summer there was a planned charity cricket day, raising money for charities auctioning off places on the day (which was going well,) and also the work of the Professional Cricketers Association who were supplying ex Internationals to host and participate in the event.

When safe to do so, it will be staged, but, as well as the charity fundraising, we now want the day to be a unique cricket 'thank you' to NHS / Key workers, community volunteers, or charity fundraisers from among the cricket family helping mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on their local communities.

As a first step we could do with seeing how many this would apply to, so please could you ask around your clubs and put your nominations in the thread.

To help fund the free places we will be doing an online draw, which one ticket would be the equivalent*of a match fee, in return you get the chance to win places on the day and other cricket experiences and memorabilia. It is a great way of personalising YOUR thank you and giving the nominees an amazing experience in a sporting passion of theirs.

Just bouncing this...as plans are back on for July 2021...

As well as raising money for charity
PHP:
and also now with more emphasis on as many clubs as possible benefiting from either staging their own social / fundraising events before or after the tournament, or by selling places on the tournament to individuals or corporate teams. No cost to you...its the same principle that has raised £505k for good causes honest.

Dm if your cricket club has taken a battering over the last 12 months.

East Brighton park has, not sure who plays there though. South Africa used it for the world cup.

East Brighton Park is probably the best local option.

Saffers used the college.
