Why has Hammond been dropped after his best game in ages?

Chippy Fit For Crewe

Richard Carpenter has recovered from his calf injury and returns to the starting line-up this afternoon at Crewe.

Carpenter replaces Dean Hammond - who drops to the bench - and will partner Kerry Mayo in the centre of the park.

Elsewhere Joel Lynch returns at left-back, while Adam Hinshelwood replaces the suspended Paul McShane in defence.

Colin Kazim-Richards continues in attack with Joe Gatting, while Seb Carole is named among the substitutes.

Midfielder Tony Grant and defender Madjid Bougherra make their debuts for the home side, while Lee Bell and Luke Varney also come into the side.
