Beechams used to stink Worthing out in the 60's...

As did Shippam's in Chichester.

I worked there occasionally in the early seventies and used to sit in the park near East Street eating my lunch - the stench was awful.

Only two things have an odour akin to Shippam's Anchovy Paste, and one of those is Shippam's Anchovy Paste.

My parents moved to Sompting ( South of A27 ) in the mid 80s, some days they could smell Beechams in their garden.

I like a pint of Harvey's but I can't stand the smell when they are brewing in Lewes.

Bad smells? How many of you remember swimming in the gents urinals at the back of the North stand at the Goldstone? Creosote would be like spring flowers after that

Believe you cannot get creosote in the UK now, except for agricultural purposes (too inflammable), but creoCote smells just as bad but is half as good. Go find a friendly farmer I say.

Indeed, I believe it is illegal now although I have a couple of litres stashed away. however, It's probably not as bad as the stuff pumped out from diesel cars and vans these days.

When I used to live near Nottingham, there was a place (around Burton Joyce I think) that had a maggot farm for fishermen. Now THAT was a bad stench.

I have been to a mink farm, now that really stinks for a number of reasons.

I remember an old family member who used to cover his fence with a creosote & old bike engine oil mix.
Lovely smell, especially in the summer, no too pungent.
