Having a rare close up view of the match from the away seats I noticed that the players had a 'lump' under their shirts just above their numbers.

Were they wearing some sort of fitness monitoring device?

Were they wearing some sort of fitness monitoring device?

Yes. They have done for some time now, in training and in matches. Most teams do. It's why the players always look like they're wearing a bra under their shirts.

Don't know if it's the same thing as is common in rugby. Many teams, including the Lions, have these - they are GPS monitors used by the staff to measure distance, speed, drop in performance etc.

I'm surprised players haven't started wearing ear pieces to get individual and collective instruction from the bench. One day maybe?
