A limited number of games deal is not completely ridiculous though is it?

He has been training with Arsenal trying to keep fit while looking for a new club. He could sign for Crawley for the next month, put himself in the shop window, keep fit, pick up a few pennies and be free to sign for someone higher up.

A PR stunt no doubt and don't imagine for a minute he will sign on a two year deal. But something similar to Garforth playing Cafu for three games a couple of years back? Why not?

Madness.

On the point of Cafu, If I remember correctly, the deal to play for garforth never materialised sadly. Socrates did play though

By no means is this anywhere near the agreement stage.

But to arrogantly dismiss Crawley as being able to sign a 37-year-old looking for football on a short term deal is burrying your head in the sand as to our increasingly financially competitive neighbours.

I'm well aware of the finances of Crawley town. They've been bought by a shady HK based businessman. Richard Brodie is on about 4k a week apparently, and they've paid a lot of money for other players. They have a plan to play Championship football in front of 15,000 in the next 10-15 years or something. It's possible, MK aren't too far away.

However in this instance, I'm not convinced there is anything in this for Pires. Presumably doesn't need the money, or the risk of getting his legs broken by some crap non-league clogger trynig to make a name for himself. IMO, he's better off playing a few guest matches for Arsenal's stiffs while training with them. Just because that muppet Crawley have as manager wants a big name, doesn't mean he'll get RObert Pires playing for him.

So that's why I agree with LB.

Didn't MK Scum start off in the Championship?

Pires has been offered deals by quite a few top two division clubs in both France and Spain but has refused to sign any of them.

This tells me he isn't that desperate that he needs to sign for a noddy non-league club who will probably implode in the next year.

Or, alternatively, maybe he's just been waiting for the right club to come along and Crawley is just too good to turn down...

Could somebody with some actual knowledge ion the subject let me know just what the hell is going on at Crawley at the moment? They have a rich consortium that currently owns them, right? But if they're so rich why have they chosen crawley and not an established football league team? Crawley have always been a pretty mundane non-league team with no history of big gates, no history of any kind really as far as I'm aware. Are the consortium expecting to make their money back through future large gates? I don't get it!
