i don't know the population of accrington but i can't imagine it is more than 50k, crawley is now not far off 95k(?), i think they could prosper in league 2, good luck to them...Also crawley is NOT a palace town, it is (and ever since it became a new town) always has been a chelsea town, i'm no fan of the place but they are the second biggest and second best team in sussex.

Slight difference is that we (Tony Bloom) is spending 90 million plus on a stadium.......i think that is 'spending a little '!!

I meant on players of course.

But because he has put so much into the greatest ground to have ever been conceived, :p, he can't really afford to put much into ways of transfers. Would we rather have a new stadium and a good relationship between the players or stay at Withdean and have "better" players who don't get along as well ?

Where the f*** is all this money coming from? I hope Crawley get promoted this season as there's so much potential in the area but if Sergio Torres or Matt Tubbs get injured, they haven't got the strength in depth to cope. Always enjoy watching Crawley from time to time, Broadfield is a nice stadium and two decent boozers on the way to the ground from the train station.

Which reminds me, I really must track down the Crawley Town fan I used to work with who had a 'Broadfield, best stadium in Sussex' mug.

If their spending is sustainable regardless of promotion then goo luck to them. I sincerely doubt it though. If they walk the BSP this season, I wouldn't be surprised if you were to play them again soon !

Accrington are quite an interesting barometer average attendence-wise:

2002: 586
2003: 1,133
2004: 1,797
2005: 1,537
2006: 1,895
2007: 2,260 (first season back in the League)
2008: 1,634
2009: 1,414
2010: 1,980

Going by that, Crawley could expect an initial burst of interest, before settling back to around what they are currently getting in the BSQ, maybe a few hundred more.

Course there are a LOT of clubs in and around Lancashire, so Accrington are always going to be struggling in that respect. But then Crawley do have the dregs of south London to compete with as well. I don't think they'll get massively more through the gate if they make it into the League.
Don't underestimate the impact Falmer may have on clubs like Crawley and Eastbourne Borough. I have lost count of the amount of people who are now interested in going next season having not been for years. There are bound to be a number in the Crawley/Eastbourne areas that go to their local team because the facilities are comparable with Withdean. Gaining 10000+ extra fans won't come entirely from people who don't go anywhere. Teams further down the pyramid may also suffer. Kids who go to Whitehawk/Worthing now may very soon change teams if the prices are right at Falmer.
