Our style of football =/= all passing football where the defender and keeper have the most touches.

There are definitely possession based styles that are dull as dishwater. Potterball for example was incredibly boring to watch a lot of the time.

There’s also definitely something that can be said for getting the ball forward and getting it in to the box. I’d rather play the way we do than almost anything else but your post seems to boil down to passing = exciting which is pretty oversimplified

No it doesn't. Pulis does not like football where the centre back and goalkeeper have the most touches. That is definitely true about how we play which means Pulis is slagging off how we play as well as the more boring variations other coaches favour. I vote @Triggaaar is the winner.

I think you're right, unfortunately. Just one spot left to avoid and Everton, Luton and Forest are on 19, 20, and 21 points respectively. Whilst a bottom-of-the-table team will often dig in and grind out points at the business end of the season, chances ae that at least one of them will have a stinker over the next 14 matches and finish in the low 30s, and I can't see Palace not picking up the 9-10 points that'll be needed.

On the other hand, we probably already have enough points for an 8th season!

Around this time of year we get claims that our points rally should be enough to keep us up. I hope my stats are right, but since there have been 20 teams in the league the range of points achieved by the 17th team is 34-42. We’re on 35 so near the bottom end of that range.

It doesn’t matter what the 17th placed team got. You only need to better what the 18th placed team got to stay up.

Since the PL went to 20 clubs the range of points achieved by 18th is 30-42. The average number of points achieved by 18th is 35.2, so 36 would keep you up more often than not on average.

Although the amount of points needed to stay up has been lower in recent seasons. Since we’ve been in the Premier League 35 points would have been enough to guarantee stay up every season except 21-22 when Burnley were relegated with 35 points. The average number of points by the 18th placed side in that time is just 33.

I can't stand the term. It piques my annoyance as ratio is a neutral term whereas 'they' use it to strongly suggest superiority. Without a qualifier, ratio is without bias.

McKenna is a sensible guy. Loyal to his task in hand. I think it will be quite an achievement to get Ipswich promoted due to the strong Championship this season, but he’s going to give it a good go.
So let’s say that he doesn’t quite get there with Ipswich. Will it put other clubs off him? Doubt it as he’s very well thought of.

So let’s say Palace stay up. Would he consider a move there? Probably.
However, it may not be the only available opportunity in the Premier League.
West Ham may be looking at him but it’s also not inconceivable that we could be looking for a new manager.
Would we, West Ham or Palace look the best opportunity for someone like McKenna?
Ultimately the club structure has a very important role in providing a base for a manger to be successful. Probably why Palace are struggling to replace Roy.

I think both us and West Ham have a high probability of qualifying for a European competition next season and are more attractive options (currently) than Palace anyway. We'd both be fishing in very different pools to them.

McKenna's options are probably Palace or get promoted with Ipswich.

I did a similar analysis at the end of last season to work out the probability of being relegated on a given number of points. The analysis is based on all the premier league seasons, with a 20/22 factor applied for the first three seasons when there were 22 clubs in the league. The analysis assumes a Normal / Gaussian distribution. A quick test on the raw data suggested that the “data does not differ significantly from that which is normally distributed”

It's when a reply to a post (usually one rebutting or arguing against the original post) gets more likes than the original post does. For example occasionally there will be a bigoted post on NSC which might not get any likes but the reply saying ` you're being bigoted` might get 10 likes. Someone could then reply saying "ratio" to point out that more people like the rebuttal than the original.
