if this is a well educated man with a good job it makes him even more of a sad case for his username and the vile he posts on here.

Sorry I find your username an insult to the thousands of soldiers that gave their lives to keep our country free. What on earth gave you the idea? Surprised you haven't been asked to change it.

I agree and find this poster to be vile

So, are you not going to explain your username? I might be wrong; you might be a Germanophile with a love for German culture – but if you were, why would you choose a name like 'Das Reich' over, for example, 'Die Blumen', 'Der Wischer', 'Die Hure', etc. Why choose a word which, like 'Volk', has pretty problematic connotations, to the extent that it seems like you're advocating an ideology founded in eugenics (culminating in the murder of millions), thereby advocating, indeirectly, racial hatred. So could you please explain?

Yes, it's used to cause a reaction. It's more commonly referred to as attention seeking.

so why do the mods allow it? I find it an insult to the memory of both my grandfathers that fought the nazi bastards in ww2 so the likes of this poster could have freedom.

I imagine that the user name is more of a 'grey area' for the mods.
However, I can't understand how the mods have allowed the weekly 'look at me I'm well hard' threads that can are openly viewable and accessible to the outside world which in turn can give our club a bad name.
It's all just 'look at me' which is a bit sad to be honest.
If a person can really fight, they don't shout about it to everybody around.

Of course, as with all language, it's all about context. Found this on Wikipedia (sorry!) might be helpful:

'A number of previously neutral words used by the Nazis have later taken on negative connotations in German (e.g. Führer or Heil); while in many contexts Reich is not one of them (Frankreich, France; Römisches Reich, Roman Empire), it can imply German imperialism or strong nationalism if it is used to describe a political or governmental entity. Reich has thus not been used in official terminology since 1945, though it is still found in the name of the Reichstag building, which since 1999 has housed the German federal parliament, the Bundestag. The decision not to rename the Reichstag building was taken only after long debate in the Bundestag; even then, it is described officially as Reichstag - Sitz des Bundestages (Reichstag, seat of the Bundestag).'

Volk, again, is a matter of context. Some Germans still see the word as having overt racial connotations.

My point with Das Reich's username is that he hasn't given a reason for why he uses this particular word (instead prefering to tell me to 'bore of [sic]' and to 'go and read a good book', which I think he considers an insult. All I asked him for was for an explanation of his username as I'm curious.

I am sure we all know why he uses it.

If this poster has any Nazi sympathies whatsoever, it would make me incredibly uneasy to think that he is allowed to post on a message forum associated with the club under the anonymity of an alias which alludes to those sympathies. For this reason, I think it is a username which requires some kind explanation (unless this has been cleared up elsewhere).
