Is it going to be vaccine dependent?

It seems that you may well be able to get in to a 20k+ stadium fixture using the NUS Covid-App with a LFT negative test or a positive test in the last 3 months (but not in last 10 days).

If you are not prepared to go to this length to protect other people from a virus you might be carrying in a global pandemic, you can’t expect to access places like the Amex and nightclubs where people have fun.

It’s not ideal, but then 120k people dying with Covid-19 isn’t either. We all have to play our part.

As you say it remains to be seen …and as I said it May not happen ..I just don’t agree with them and somewhere along the line you have to make a stand…and I’m not anti vax far from it

The truth’s somewhere in between your arguments. 130,000 died within 28 days of having had Covid, NOT died due to Covid.

You’re correct, obviously, that many more others died from other causes.

Agree there will never be a definitive answer and I'm not quite sure what the government gains from over reporting numbers, apart from being made to look incompetent.

My main grumble was the "knocked over by a bus" bit which is so lazy and so untrue, but fits the narrative for some people.

I get that.

The vaccine thing is a touch extreme for me but if there are other ways to trigger your Covid Passport, that should suit everyone.

What I’m not keen on is the Wolves regulations around keeping a mask on, staying in your seat etc. I’d much prefer no restrictions after people have entered with a Covid passport. It might just be a LTF test for many who’ve not had the jabs.

There’s no perfect system in real time, especially with doctors across the world overwhelmed and unprepared in March to May 2020. Saving lives was the priority.

The long agreed (between nations) definitive methodology is total excess deaths, there are agreed formulae. Its one limitation is that a few countries for reasons of national pride refuse to reveal real total death numbers - China and Turkey. There’s also a bit of a time lag, the UK disclose numbers promptly, others including some in Europe weeks later.

Here’s the latest list. The key column is the per capita data on the right.

The problem with using excess deaths as the only metric is that it takes no account of "lives saved" - only what would have been expected as a 5 year average - the last 17 months have been anything but average.

I don't think it will ever be possible to get an idea of "true" numbers, but 115,000 excess deaths is pretty sad, however you look at it...

Premier League football fans who have not been fully vaccinated could be barred from attending matches from October under plans expected to be signed off by ministers, The Telegraph can disclose.

The mandatory requirement is expected to extend to the autumn rugby internationals, major concerts, and spectator events of 20,000 or more as part of Boris Johnson’s efforts to turn Covid-19 into a “manageable menace”.

A social media campaign aimed at boosting uptake among 18-30 year-olds will also be ramped up, linking vaccination to the ability to go on holiday, as three million of them are yet to receive a single dose.

The NHS booster jab rollout will deliver 35 million doses to over-50s and the most vulnerable over 13 weeks from Sep 6 to save the country from another lockdown this winter.

Government sources told The Telegraph officials have entered talks with the Premier League over potentially moving to mandatory double vaccination status for supporters attending matches, as part of the drive to keep the country moving in the run up to Christmas.

If they’re forced to check 30,000 people’s current covid status before a game it’ll be a logistical nightmare; the queues will be something to behold. I guess those STH that have been double jabbed will only have to prove it once though. It’ll be interesting whether (and when) the over 50s have to prove they’ve had a booster if the government introduce that, as currently mooted.

It's as if you don't trust this government to have thought through the implications ?

I have to say though, in principle, I'll be a lot happier at the Amex knowing that my health and, possibly life, isn't solely reliant on some other bloke's views on 'inherent insusceptibility', 'healthy diet and lifestyle', 'personal rights', 'fear of needles', 'research done on the Internet' or utter and complete lunacy

*edit*

Reading that back, it sounds a little selfish. Ironic isn't it :lolol:

They are arranging it themselves

So what happens in league 1?

Sheff wed and Sunderland are capable of getting 20k fans in

Or the FA cup tie against a lower side with a big stadium?

It sounds like it’s only PL being looked at - which is logical given the numbers, but there will be 20k plus crowds lower down.

If they want 20000+ crowds they will implement the new system. If they are happy with restricted capacity they won’t. Pretty straightforward. Presumably it could be incorporated into the Ground Safety certificate where clubs have to make other safety guarantees.

If fans are using the Covid passport on the NHS App, it’s just a scan of a QR code. Then you’re in. This would be my preference to avoid social distancing, mask wearing and ‘staying in your seat’ advice in the stadium.

If not jabbed, you should be able to upload a LFT test or if you’ve had Covid in the last 3 months, that should show up too.

It could be very quick to get folks in if the technology is used correctly both by individuals and the stadium staff.

Who arranges away fans?

Is that Sunderlands job to do? Or the away teams?

How quickly does it take to set up a system for one off games?

I know why they have done it, it doesn’t look like they have thought it through other than PL will cover it all.

It’s a good question re away fans. If the vaccine passports are going to be uploaded in some way (or at least associated with) ST then presumably the away club can share this information with the home club at point of purchase. If it’s checks on the day then away fans get checked the same as home fans. We are planning to arrive early for games this season !

The perfect solution for August sitting on the grass in the sun with a pint, but October ? Bring a Poncho

I've had my two jabs in France. Will that be acceptable here ?
