Great signing. Having Gerard there will mean plenty more like this over the next few windows I’m sure. You’d LOVE to play for him.

Very good move for Villa. The worst that can happen for them is they spend a few million on his wages for six months and send him back - would probably still cost them less than Locadia! Would it have happened if someone hadn't 'forgotten' to switch on the goal line technology?

A nice headline but Villa must be paying a significant amount of his ludicrous wages.

Barca will have been desperate to see him go and not just for financial reasons, he never suited their system(s) and never won over their fans. Remains to be seen whether he can find some of his 2016 form but the PL will be even tougher for him and he has barely played in the last few seasons. Bayern did not wish to sign him or take another loan after a mixed spell with them.

Never bought into the smug Eddie thing but Smug ‘Stevie G’ is off the scale. The sooner he crashes and burns at Villa and is forced to take Sol Campbell’s old gig at Southend the better.

Agreed. That first season in the PL, Coutinho and Hazard came to the Amex, and were the two players who stood out to me as being so far above and beyond any player I had ever witnessed 'live'.

And I'd seen Paul Kitson.

Actually playing!!?

Absolutely agree. Couldn't stand him as a player, can't stand him as a manager

Villa supporting relative is absolute purring with delight at this move, says it's the first of many big name signings under 'Stevie G'. Wouldn't rule Villa out from a Europa spot now.

Does seem quite a coup to get him on loan - big wages no doubt, but worth a punt for 5 months. Intrigued to see how he does. After all, it's not that long since he won the Champions League at Bayern

Not sure about this.

The best Villa can hope for whatever he does is Europa League, and that looks unlikely.

Next season, if they got there, we all know what strains the Europa thing can do to the smaller squads.

An expensive folly?

On £380k a week. So about £8m for half a seasons football from him. They aren’t going down and highly unlikely to be top 7 so hard to see what the benefit is beyond having him play for a small amount of time.

Typical reaction from them. They really are full of it. I assume Coutinho will be booed if he dares to leave Project Villa World Domination any time before he retires?

When we played them last season, on the bus to the ground there was a Villa fan saying very passionately how great it was that their captain and manager were both Villa fans and that it was all part of some master plan and how much it meant to them. Probably he’s glad they’ve both gone now!
