If you havent paid a court fine, how long is it until the court can't chase you for it anymore?

Just wondered?!

I think that's right.
People you owe money to have a certain amount of time to take proceedings, but if you already have fines from the courts, that could be a totally different matter.

Could be totally wrong of course.
You have not been charged for this (mis)information.

Surely that would be until you die...then they can try and reclaim it from your estate!

If you've not paid a fine it is highly likely that at some stage a court will have found you in default and it is entirely possible a warrant will be issued for your arrest. The bill will probably not bother searching for you over this warrant. They tend to deal with things like this in bulk so you may not even be aware until the next time you are arrested at which point the bill will check and likely find out.

Bingo, remand in police custody until court next sits when you can try to explain away your defaulting.

Bad luck, you should have either paid or approached the court and asked for more time.

Really?

Thought they only had 3 years!

you are thinking of how long the record of their being a judgement against you stays on record (starting from when you pay up).

I got an on-the-spot fine for £80 a while back. Tried to ignore it but went up to £120 a few weeks later and warning me that if I didn't pay then there would be a warrant for my arrest.

The courts will catch up with you in the end. Best to pay the fine.

Edit: I shouldn't assume you're in any kind of trouble, Timbo. Apologies for that.

Why don't you just pay it? You obviously did something illegal to deserve it

In 'the old days' it was up to some office junior to bring up a record of those who owed money but now it is a case of setting the computer to throw up the names as the payments become due so very few are missed and the charges keep getting added on .

I'm sure they will eventually then :(

Just curious as I rang and asked the court a question and they said they would get back to me. That was 2 and a half years ago and I've not heard a thing since!

I hope you haven't been sitting by the phone waiting.

Just tell em you eat Halal meat (Doesn't everybody now?).Have to pray in the afternoons and have a wife who fortunately wears a bag on her head and they'll let you off.
Another story today of an illegal immigrant killing a 14 year old boy and jumping the Country as his passport wasn't taken away.
No closure for mum.Just another example of the insanity of Britains Immigration policy and Judicial system.
MADNESS.

Then again I got out so maybe I should shut up?
