Totally agree.

I work with developers who do all this, with the sustainable measures sought by councils. Then in the real world residents move in with multiple petrol/diesel cars per household, often taking street spaces. In this, it would be by BHCC street residents parking permits, which would be unfair on already pressured parking for existing residents.

They will make the development “car free”

It's a bit off topic but surely all the council has to do is to say that no street parking permits will be issued to anyone living in the new developments. If those terms are in the lease from the outset, no-one could have any objections.

That would be perfect.

From what I’ve seen as a lifelong Brightonian, in reality, new flat residents move in with too many cars, and immediately join the street parking permit waiting list for the area. They eventually succeed in getting one, obviously ahead of people moving in later on to older homes in legit streets by the new flats.

Its also disappointing that the plans do not seem to have allowed for onsite parking on match days.which will impact on the surrounding area on match days.

BHCC and the developers will rely on sustainably, i.e. every single 20/20 attendee won’t hop in a car. In reality, what a load of bollox.

Its not off topic, its very much on topic! Most councils, I'm guessing BHCC included, have a policy of not allowing residents of new city centre blocks to apply for on street residents' parking permits. Must be a good chance of insistence of car free by planners, or at least restricted to disabled and drop off, in this sustainable transport location close to train station/bus stops and cycle ways!

Not many will though. Partly because drinking and cricket go hand in hand and lots of people going want to down a few pints. And partly because the County Ground is slap bang in the middle of a parking zone, anyone wanting to park has to go north of OSR - which is a bit of a hike.

Knock down a decent pub to build some generic super-expensive flats? Sounds about right for this neck of the woods

The tv is too small and the ablutions are miles away. Guinness isn't too shabby though. :drink:

That’s my neck of the woods, I spent 25 years just yards away.

At non-4 day games, huge numbers of cricket fans drive in. Parking in pay bays in the many streets in central Hove and for free in the evenings just north of OSR eg Rigden, Hove Rec. A lot of people don’t mind being restricted to 2 pints I assume.

But if they're parking in pay bays or in a different area, then they're not taking residents' spaces away.

Do loads of people really drive in? I know my dad and his mates always used to leave cars at home for one-dayers so as not to interfere with the drinking. Judging by the state of fans at the end of most games I've been to, there aren't many sticking to two pints :)

Usually after cricket has been on it looks like there was a fire alarm in M&S Menswear department between the ground and Hove station. Seems most get trains or get spouse to pick them up.

I never said they were taking residents spaces.

I thought we were discussing my point that everyone won’t be attending 20/20 matches by sustainable transport means. Every time I go to 20/20 matches, the traffic for along way from the County Ground is buzzing?

People won’t give up their cars, it’s the UK.

And I suspect that the theory that many spouses or parents drop the spectators off and pick them up is a good one

How is it a complete pain for anyone who lives outside B&H? There's a train station about 5 minutes away and about 20 bus routes. There's not much parking near the ground, it's true, but much of the fun in going to cricket is having a few drinks. It's no more inaccessible than the Amex is.

Where on earth in central Sussex could a stadium be built? It would have be more near a railway as pretty much all new developments would need sustainable transport links. It can't be in the SDNP and it would need some decent road access and bus services. There can't be many places that fit those criteria. And that's before you have to deal with the inevitable protests from NIMBYs and BANANAs.

Sussex have already cut down on their outgrounds. They don't go to Horsham or Eastbourne any more (Hastings and Worthing are long gone) - they're just not financially viable. Why build another ground that no-one wants to go to?

They don't go to Eastbourne because it's substandard.

Horsham is a different matter. Horsham told them to sod off as they were grabbing more and more of the PROFIT it made. To put the county game on took a lot of people a lot of time and effort on a voluntary basis, the benefit was it helped Horsham CCC, Sussex in turn started demanding more and more. The game always sold out. How do I know? I was one of those that year after year took time off work to make it happen.

Frankly its a disgrace they don't go round the county, as I say it is Sussex CCC.

As to a pain in the arse. 20/20 20/072019 7pm v Hampshire,I live in Robertsbridge so to go by train i'd have to leave 16.39 to get to the station 18.36, so pushing it to get in before the first ball and return at 21;16, missing the last 6 or so overs OR get the 00:26 and get home 06:26.

That goes for every evening game.

Selfish me wanting to be able to watch live cricket but either having to take a chance on getting a parking space or missing half the event.

You and the 4 who have agreed with you can't see the bigger picture. It's cramed in the worse area possible in Sussex, car hating council, it stops those from surrounding areas of Sussex from coming and whats more it has poor facilities, poor views and wicket that appears to favour every other *******

Don’t think cricket attendances have ever been the same since Sunday hours were extended in pubs. The cricket used to be one of the few places you could get a beer on a Sunday afternoon, with King & Barnes being very popular at Horsham...

Sussex say something very different. They don't go to Horsham as they make a financial loss. That sounds about right: many other counties have cut back on out cricket as they can't be justified: for example, Yorkshire used to play at Sheffield, Bradford and Scarborough as well as Leeds, now it's just Scarborough.

If it's financially crippling to play outside Hove on existing grounds, there's no way that they'll make a new ground pay its way.

And I note you don't address the planning issue - as you may have noticed with the Amex, it's not easy getting things built in Sussex.

It's cramed in the worse area possible in Sussex, car hating council, it stops those from surrounding areas of Sussex from coming

So, Westander tells me that roads to the ground are clogged with cars, while you say that it's near impossible to drive in. It's a unique cricket ground we have - Schrodinger's ground, full of cars and empty at the same time.

BHCC is car hating, but fans arriving in good time can grab pay for bays in the many streets of central Hove, or north of the OSR for free (only limited in day time).

The County Ground isn’t too far from the A27.

It’s central Brighton where the car hell awaits.

One and the same clogged with us from the great unwashed trying to find a non-resident space somewhere within the god forsaken place. Oh and one with more than a two hour limit!!!
