Countries you would never wish to visit?

What a horrible, judgemental thread. How anyone can judge a country from what they see on the news and in the media is beside me. If that was the case, all Americans would think we actualy go round the place drinking tea all the time wearing our bowler hats.

Just because a country has a lot of crime/poverty does not make it a place you shouldn't want to visit. Open your eyes, broaden your horizons. A few years ago I had the chance to work in the slums in Nairobi, Kenya and was one, if not the, greatest experience of my life. Would go back there in a heartbeat. Yes, the food wasn't great and yes, it smelt awful, and yes, the poverty is beyond dreadful and something which in the 21st century should have been sorted out, but the people and the expereicne was 2nd to none.

Totally agree, I lived in Nairobi for three years and have been to load of african countries as well as other places around the globe. How people have come to the conclusion they don't like somewhere from their armchair is ridiculous. It is true that travel broadens the mind, seems true of the opposite too, those that do no travel have a very blinkered view.

Just back from teaching football finance there. Very friendly, hospitable and generous people. Not a lot to see though unless you like building sites. The heat was incredibly oppressive.

Dubai - can't stand the place . It has no culture or history and is just tacky . People say but you can go skiing there. Why would I want to go indoor skiing there ? Would rather go the Alps.



USA- again no culture. The poverty and homelessness is off the scaled there . Also I really despise their tipping culture because their government can't pay a proper wage , we have to make it up for them . Considering USA is meant to be the world leading superpower their people could not be anymore backward

My work involves a lot of travel and I have actually been to Dubai/UAE . I picked Dubai as it's just a tourist haven built on slave labour.

Oman on the other hand is lovely and has a lot of traditions still . But yeah I suppose I'm a little Englander

The US is a great place to visit. People are generally friendly especially away from the obvious tourist spots. I love New York it has the energy of a great global city, but even better was traveling through Georgia and the Carolina's people were so friendly. Would also recommend India. In fact get out there leave your prejudices at home and explore the world.

I'd like to visit North Korea just to see what it is really like (or at least as far as your official tour guide will let you see). You can go there with specialist tour agency's. Best not to ask too many difficult questions whilst there though!

One country I would not miss again from my travels is Saudi Arabia. Depressing place in so many ways.

I have visited a lot of cities in USA and they all have a similar feel about them . All have the same shops / restaraunts.
I also find the people fake and over the top.

In its defence San Diego was the only place I saw a bit of culture but that was because it had an old Mexican feel about it .

To answer the question I've not travelled yet to a place that I wouldn't go back to. Spent months working in India and loved it. Lived in Oz for a year and Taiwan for nearly three and loved both for different reasons. In fact, the only place I can think of I'd avoid is Syria due to the constant actual bombings.

I have travelled all over the US and I find the idea different cities have a similar feel totally and utterly ludicrous. NYC the same as LA? New Orleans the same as Dallas? You have also contradicted yourself; tipping and Americans "being over the top" is part of their culture. Culture goes beyond a few Mexican artefacts.

You seem to have at best a bee-in-your-bonnet or at worst prejudice.....so let's agree to disagree and leave it here.

No it was based off many trips to NY , Chicago, Atlanta, Orlando, Miami , Denver , Dallas , San Diego , LA , Seattle and Houston. Sorry if I've forgotten any
