I used to live five minutes walk from Ashton Gate (in Southville) and even I knew I was in the HISTORICAL COUNTY of Somerset. As the map clearly demonstrates. Zoom in. The county border was the Avon. Everything south of it (plus Spike Island) was Somerset.

Agreed. Having spent a huge amount of time on my Uncles farm at Brockley just down the road I can confirm that Ashton Gate was definitely in the historical county of Somerset.

What's all this 'was in Somerset' business?! The traditional/historic counties still exist, as pointed out on my first post on this thread, so therefore Bristol City FC are a Somerset club. :hilton::hilton:

The traditional/historic counties do not still exist only in your mind, the historic counties are well, history, just like historically Bristol had Pirates, one day you country boys will move into this century, stop living in the past:hilton::lolol:

Part of Hampshire, well, let the debate begin.

You see, it became a county by administration in it's own right in 1890. But Southampton were formed in 1885.

So by connection of county, it once belonged to one that had a team.
