I meant to watch this, but got home too late. Never listened on the radio, but my parents recommended it and, from my point of view, they don't tend to laugh at things that aren't funny, so will give it a go on the iPlayer.

It did not live up to the radio version. A shame. I think that the Alan Partridge film will also be a disappointing venture.

I've not heard any of the radio stuff but I thought it was a pile of old cock!

As for Partridge sadly I think you are going to be right. I get the feeling it's going to be one of those films where all of the good bits are in the trailer.

I am basing it on the trailer which is pretty bad in itself.

Oh!

I thought it looked ok. Just looks like a British re-make of Airheads which has potential. That said the last couple of Patridge things have been poor, that Fosters thing he did on Youtube which made it on to Sky was awful. If it's a feature length version on that then I won't be bothering.

No it wasn't.

All about opinions I guess!

I reckon that the TV series fails on a few levels. They've added some cliche madcap comedy characters for the sake of cheap laughs - Sex-mad old woman, comedy foreigner with comedy accent (how come his sister speaks the Queen's English), comedy dodgy geezer, comedy simpleton. That's not what the radio series was about. The point is that Arthur is the only bonkers one. Everyone else is normal.

Was it just me or are there hardly any mispronunciations? It's a huge part of the act. And too much toilet referencing. The cafe looked like the standard 80s sitcom cafe. None of the other regular characters were there. The butcher's shop banter on the radio gives some of the funniest lines - "I'll just take a meander down Offal Avenue". I doubt I'll be hanging around to see if that or the Shoulder of Mutton Pub survived the transition.

And regurgitating the memory man act into the very first scene strikes of desperation. And on TV Arthur comes across as just pathetic at times. Hmm...not good.

I'd say to anyone who watched that and hadn't heard the radio series to give it a go and try to ignore the rubbish you watched last night. Some things just don't travel well. My brother likened it to the Mark and Lard afternoon show moving to the morning slot. If you'd never heard them in the afternoon you'd have thought they were witless fools out of their depth.

Read the reviews on the thread and thought why bother...but I did and it was bloody marvelous!!

2 cups of tea? Why bring them both at the same time?

The radio shows are hilarious. I have all rhis ecorded show on CD. The tv series not so. Better translated on the radio.
Having said that, he is a genius, and one of the few that makes me really laugh......................
How anyone can confuse a toaster with a video recorder and seek help from a Scottish call centre is anybody's guess.
