The rumours that he might be off from Palace to the Prem with Wigan interested for £5miliion suggests it could be seen as a big mistake but if he didn't want to stay what more could we have done. Look at Chris Wood now at Millwall - he must be worth a bit now, but whenhe was with us looked really ordinary. Was it a mistake to not sign him - half the time it's guess work.

Is there really another thread on this? Yes it was a mistake, yes you now rue it, yes it's now time to move on.

FUUUUCK!!! A palace fan talking sense!! Are the signings of Bridge, Bridcutt, Kuszczak and Buckley some of the best decisions this club has ever made? Gus is a new manager learning his trade, why keep on about one of his few mistakes, a new manager is always going to make some, (ok it was an huge one!) when he has done so much that is right?

Yes and poyet is a twat for letting him go. He's more of a twat for not replacing him though still!

Poyet has the team set up really well though, especially at home. We really do just need a finisher and then I really can't fault poyets home game set up. Away set up for me needs tweaking. We need to tighten it up and stay solid... Play 2 wingers + a powerful finisher (that's someone who can win headers, hold the ball up AND take his chances I.e. Murray, lambert, holt)

We're nearly there!

Absolute f***ing bollocks! A huge number of our idiot fan base couldn't see a genuinely talented centre forward and were more interested in him kissing the poxy badge. Who gives a flying shit what his temperament was like. He was a brilliant footballing/holding/scoring front man. Sorely missed. Huge mistake. But it's happened. That's life. Move on.

He has maintained the same demeanour at Palace so it was nothing about 'not liking the bha fans' it's just the way he is, shy, introverted, whatever you want to call it. We're not all Kazenga Lualuas.

So he never asked for any transfer requests then?

Ian wright being rejected after scoring 3 goals in a Brighton reserve game was rather costly as well . Did an OK job for Palace and Arsenal I hear .
How about Roy Keane being refused a trial for being too small . Despite his slender build had a good career at a couple of other clubs .

Who cares about his personality or whether he liked us? He scored goals, that's all I care about.

"Good riddance" indeed, at least we got £0 in transfer fees to reinvest from getting rid of him. It's been delightful watching him score for Crippled Phallus EVERY f***ing WEEK, as well as against us THREE times as they SMASHED us home and away.

It's not "good riddance" at all and him being "miserable" had absolutely no impact on anything whatsoever, bar the time those twats berated him at Brentford when he didn't applaud the fans , if that's what being miserable consists of. Maybe it'd be easier for people to get over if Gus could actually find us a striker that is capable of putting the ball in the net more than once from 30 chances..

What about Steve Bull being sold for next to nothing by WBA to their main rivals Wolves.

He then scored about 300 goals for them and played for England a few times.

At least Murray was out of contract.

The maths is simple given the outrageous amount of prem money that is up for grabs in 2013 and the relatively small outlay for Murray's wages. I have no doubt that a Macca/Murray partnership up front would have got us promoted this year.

Therefore, I put it to you, in real terms, was the decision to let Glen Murray leave end up being one of the costliest mis-judgements in English football history?
No , if we had re-signed Muzza he would have been gash , playing for the P*keys suits him as he is able to fall over in the box and get awarded penalty kicks instead of yellow cards for simulation.

Will never mention the Club source (at the top level), but it is true:

1. That Murray wanted to stay; and
2. His hoped for pay rise was less than double, and still less than a stack of the current squad.

Those stating the opposite on here are either guessing or fibbing, from anti-Palace-tinted-glasses.

It really was a Gus thing that he thought Murray wasn't wasn't worth a Championship players wage level.
How wrong he was.

They all make mistakes. Anyone heard of Veron, Djemba Djemba (so good they named him twice), Kleberson, Bellion, Taibi, Forlan?

I just hope Gus is flexible enough to learn, and not consider himself god-like in all his decision making.

fair play

I was told by a director of another club that he was touted to them in the February before his contract was up in June (perfectly legal) at a salary which they thought vastly in excess of his worth (and they pay more than us generally as they have been established at a higher level for years). Hindsight is a wonderful thing

Once more for the hard of thinking.

FFS is doing the business because he is playing in an attacking team with 2 wingers, planting the ball on his head.
(Point to the person who has said FFS can't head the ball)

Had he stayed he would be have been left marooned from the midfield with 1 non crossing winger for occasional company.

On top of that he'd have all the baggage of the 4 previous seasons of 'terrace grief' to deal will.

So no.

The better question would be:-

Could the decision to let Gus manage be the costliest mistake in English footy history?
To which the answer is obviously NO, as well.

Oh dear, you quite obviously didn't see the Bolton match whereby we had about 400 corners each crying out for someone to stick a head on. Glen Murray would have created a bloodbath that day.

You quite obviously
