Could the answer to our centre midfield problem be...

At least Loft goes looking for the ball off other players, and makes them play short passes to him, instead of them humping it forward

The only way we're going to find out if Loft is good enough is to give him a few games, That way we'll find out once and for all whether the boy is up to it. I doubt he'd do any worse than the rest of our midfielders have so far.

its not hiding, it is standing out as playing RUBBISH. The game passes them by and they look like awful players.

At least Loft.. goes looking for the ball off other players, and makes them play short passes to him, instead of them humping it forward

I can't believe I'm atually reading a comparison where Loft is the better player. And I can't believe I actually agree!

We have tried everyone else including a centre back, and a left back, so why not give a central midfielder a chance to play in central midfield?

At Lewes he played there and scored from distance, something our midfield has not done.

As I keep saying, 1 goal from open play from central midfield in the WHOLE of 2008 is a shocking stat

I don't see why Micky seems afraid to play him in the league. He gave him a chance to impress in the JPT and Micky then says in an interview that he was terrific. Sure enough, Thomson was back for the league game.

As for Doug, it's a shame there is this misconception that he's shit. Noone KNOWS he is, because he's never been given the chance to prove himself one way or the other. He deserves his chance. Come to think of it, who WOULDN'T deserve a chance in our midfield when the first choices are so poor? By chance though, I don't mean one game and if he doesn't perform the Withdean mongs are on his back. Micky needs to tell him he'll be in the team for 3 or 4 games REGARDLESS of what happens in the first one. Then judge him, and if he's not good enough then fine, get rid, but the stick he gets bearing in mind he's never had that chance is SHOCKING.

Fully agree. Has to be worth giving him a fair chance. He cannot be worse than the central midfielders on Saturday.

Without wanting to hijack the thread; Wilkins did try Cox a few times in the midfield last year (at the base of the diamond I think) - normally changed to it mid-game when we were losing as opposed to starting with it though. Didn't seem too bad, actually.

Indeed he did. Cox was also playing there for a bit against Southend and he looked alright in fairness, but that was probably due to the fact they were down to ten men.

No I don't think he was particularly great in any of those games (cannot comment on the Northampton game), I'm not denying he may do a couple of things, but for most of the game he disapears and doesn't have much of an impact.

Unlike the rest of our midfield of course who are all superstar midfield dynamos who make a MASSIVE contribution every week.

Form is temporary, class is permanent. Cox is the most creative player we have with the most assists in the past two seasons and around twenty odd goals. Stick with him. He has more in his locker than most of the other options could dream of.

I always thought he looked better in the hole. That's where he can hurt the oppositon.

Shhh! It's not fashionable to admit that Wilkins had any Plan B and if you do so you have to slag it off.
