Could Cox Be On His Way Out The Door ??

I would think for the reasons already posted (lightweight, inconsistent, etc... to which I will add that he rarely delivers a corner over the first man), that he is worth at best £75k and is an average player at this level.

Not the sort of player that Saints ought to be looking in their position, but is perhaps in their budget!!

I can't see it myself though. I think he's our player for the forseeable future and I hope he develops the initial potential he originally showed two years ago.

Littlehampton,Wick actually
Over rated, 3ft,lightweight who struggles to put decent cross or corner in,can he reach the penalty spot? maybe we should let him pick ball up and bounce it,never takes his man on,players can read him in the 1st 45 minutes,2nd half players have him sussed.

I got the impression Wilkins really rated Cox so it wouldn't surpise me at all. If he did go it would be another Hammond situation, people do not appreciate the work he does on the pitch and then about 6 months later everyone will be saying 'we never really replaced Dean Cox' etc etc Would want us to push for 250k plus decent sell on clause and then settle for roughly 200k.

I heard a couple of months ago that he was going to be off in the summer, this was from one of his mates.

Disagree. Hammond was always a good midfielder, even in the Championship.
Cox struggles to make it in Div1. I would snap anybody's hands off if they offered money for him.

I've long since grown tired of this " cheeky chappie " image that Cox has developed.
When he first broke into the side he caught a few teams out ( as they didn't know him ) but as each year passes, his limitations are more obvious.
1) His lack of physical presence results in him being muscled off the ball. As a result, he resorts to fouling and gamesmanship to try and compensate. His disciplinary record, therefore, is poor.
2) His one-footedness limits his play and results in him constantly checking and switching to his right foot. This often slows play down and allows the opposition to recover.
3) His deadball delivery is simply not good enough. It often fails to clear the first man and is painfully predictable.
4) How many MOM awards does he win? People were raving about his performance v Yeovil ( v poor side on the day ) but a decent effort every 10-12 games simply aint enough.
Slade has to build a side of more consistent performers and IMHO Cox does not fit the bill.

The sad thing is that all your points are right, but he's STILL our most creative midfielder. And however inconsistent a player is, I don't think you should sell them off if they're more of a strong link than a weak one. We have loads of weaker links that should be out the door before Cox.

Agree about weaker links, but they have no value.

If there is a money rich fool out there that thinks Cox is worth six figures then surely we should take his money and use the cash to hopefully get someone better in his position?

We are majorly short of decent wingers as it is. If we address this then he can go otherwise be madness

If the figure is anything over £100k i would happily take him there myself! Too inconsistent, cant cross, cant beat a man and too lightweight, pretty much cant do anything a winger should do well.

Maybe I'm being too ambitious, but I'd say the ideal method of squad improvement now would be to buy quality first choices and have people like Cox as the back-up. If we've really got money and we're really serious about getting out of this league that's what we'd do.

That is my view and I would say that every player we have signed has improved the squad but not he first XI. Even Dickenson, if the Murray situation could be resolved, should not make the first team in preference to Murray & Forster although he could as Forster gets older and slower and possibly injuriesb take their toll. I have said this many times on NSC RS has signed squad players not ones who will walk straight into the team based on their ability.

The Murray situation will never be resolved while he is still here.

Dickinson scored a fantastic goal last night and there is plenty more to come.

He has done it in the Championship and Leagues One and Two.

Wouldn't be a big loss at all if he were to go, I really wouldn't care, much better more consistent players out there.

I cannot see why the Murray situation cannot be resolved with negotiations and also cannot see Dickenson matching his goal scoring record for us this season.
