Back in the late 70’s a work colleague of mine was on the Brighton lifeboat crew, as were a number of police officers. They would do their stuff and then go back to the John St police bar, get pissed, and then he’d drive back to Hurstpierpoint, where he lived, with a police escort so he wouldn't be pulled over.

Sounds like 70s policing...

I already do a monthly donation, as they're one of those charities you think; I've never needed to use them, I don't want to use them, but you never know! However anything to stick one to the cretins like Farage, so spent a load in the online shop.

18 years and only 600 odd posts, but I have enjoyed 100% of the ones I’ve seen.

Had similar when some woman started gobbing off about some of their funds going to help prevent drowning in Bangladesh. I signed up for the monthly donation after that.

That was even worse. They spend 2% of their income on supporting life saving projects there and in other countries. The Times (I would have thought better of them) and the Daily Mail (par) ran the stories.

The reaction from a lot of people was gut wrenching. A couple of MPs waded in too (I'll give you precisely nothing for guessing which main party...)

The RNLI are a marvellous organisation, I always chuck a couple of quid in when I get the chance. I have an annual fishing holiday with a pal who owns a small inflatable boat, we stay and launch at Mousehole, Cornwall. Just around the headland is the abandoned lifeboat station of Penlee. We have chugged by there in the boat many times and I can never forget what happened there. For those too young to remember what our country was like before we became divided, polemic and bitter let me post what the RNLI is all about.

RIP you brave men.......The words of United States Navy exchange-pilot LCDR Russell Smith, are particularly poignant.

Done.

Fabulous cause and I despise Farridge - win/win. :)

And some nice branded leisurewear to wave....

I could go on but I'm taking a leaf out of the book of Stat Brother on this occasion

I don't think you'll succeed in derailing this thread or getting it bear pitted. You could find yourself in trouble again though.

Quite right, too, as this thread is fine where it is. I've been actively engaging with 'that lot' in the pit - hopefully they'll be too busy doing what they do over there.

Leisurewear, you say? #goesforagander :)

£20 donated - plus gift aid. Never donated to RNLI before (not sure why not - marvellous organisation)....but Farage's ridiculous antics encouraged me to get my credit card out :)

A few years ago, by pure chance, we visited a lovely seaside village called Hope Cove near Salcombe and it happened to be RNLI fund raising day.
BBQ's and games on the beach, pub, restaurant, beach shop all raising money well into the evening.
All the locals were out plus the holiday makers and day trippers like me.
It was a fabulous day, spent loads and we now try and go each year.
They really are amazing people who put there own lives on the line, as volunteers.
