Aiming to go for 2 weeks, see the nature/wildlife, sights, some trekking ideally and finish with a few days at a beach with a few bars and restaurants.
All in Budget around £2000 each, any ideas recommendations on organised tours or do it yourself, public transport etc?

I’d head towards Cuba and veer left and you can’t miss it.

Cant see how your'll do it for £2k - It's not known as Costa Fortune by the yanks for nothing.

We went 2 years ago, and used Roy at 'Anywhere Costa Rica' who helped build the route. It's well trodden, but excellent (Nicolya/Pacific coast side only)

Flew into San Jose via Dallas, picked up a car for 3 weeks, drove to Arenal (jungle tours, hot springs, deserted water parks, mountain climbs/tours) - >Monteverde (jungle walks, Selvatura zip slides, Sloths etc) big drive down to Punta Arenas, ferry across to Paquera, and surfed/beached it in St Teresa, Samara, Nosara, Playa Junquillal, ending in Tamarindo - about 1500 km.

No Jaguars, but Vipers, 'Banana Wandering Spiders', Wolf Spiders, Frogs with poison for dart tips, Crocs etc etc

Loads to do, loved it, Message if you want more info.

As you asked I went a few years ago with Rickshaw Travel. Had an amazing trip, great country with so much to do.

Rickshaw is an independent company based in Brighton, although it’s all via website and phone calls and not a shop so to speak.

If you like your wildlife, nature and beauty then you love it, very bohemian vibe to the place.

We had a hire car, I didn’t see much in the way of public transport.

Pura vida!

I've lived here for 6 years on the North Pacific Coast (Tamarindo)

For transport definitely rent a car - you should be able to get something for $35-45 a day. Costa Rica is a very expensive country and shuttles and taxis around the country will run into the $100s of dollars.

In terms of nature - the most pristine and unspoilt part of the country for jungle and nature is the Osa Peninsula and Corcovado National Park in the far south west of the country.

Another favourite national park of mine is Cahuita National Park which is on the Caribbean coast - great for sloths, macaws, toucans, monkeys and turtles.

The most popular and easily accessible National Park is Manuel Antonio which has beautiful beaches and lots of animals but is very crowded.

Personally I've never found the Monteverde area that interesting unless you are into zip-lining and bird watching (although for this Osa would also be brilliant)

For Beach towns the nicest on the Pacific are Tamarindo (although quite American), Samara (a bit more laid back) and Nosara (laid back but as a town it's very spread out - you have to drive everywhere). Tamarindo has the most picturesque beach of those 3 and is best for surfing at all levels.

I would definitely recommend NOT staying or visiting Jaco (Croydon on sea/Costa Rican Benidorm) or Playa del Coco - both are seedy as hell and not in a charming way.

I could go on and on! Feel free to message me with any questions! When are you thinking of going?

Went last year, as a 20th Wedding Anniversary treat.

Best holiday ever. If you love wildlife, exotic animals and venomous creepy-crawlies, Costa Rica is perfect!

When I went, a little over 10 years ago, my budget was less than £20 a day all in- accommodation, food, booze, transport.

Hi all

Not wanting to show off or gain attention or anything, but I’m heading off next week to spend the rest of my life on a sun soaked, tropical beach to lie in a hammock and have my every whim catered for by my phalanx of Tahitian maidens.

Any advice to help with this?

Keep hydrated and wear sun cream.

Start a new thread.

Good luck! Are you hoping for Tahitian virgin maidens?

Went to Costa Rica a few years ago. Went via Miami but now you can fly direct. It.s expensive but also trip of a lifetime. If you can see some of yhe less easy to get to Caribbean coast but in any case enjoy.
