Who says we have to have <insert politician you don't like> as a president? A ceremonial apolitical presidential alternative would be fantastic IMO. But we live in a world where 2 thirds of this country are happy enough with injustice so bad that senior royals get away with suspected noncing, fraud, using the RAF as a personal taxi service and so on - because they're scared of losing an unelected head of state.

I'm bored of the argument. If Andrew's conduct isn't enough to make people see the injustice of lack of accountability, then nothing is.

Presidents live in very large properties, have to have paid security and would cost a fortune without the benefit of an income from the Crown Estates.

Yes, I am a royalist, and dislike the current situation since the late Queen died. I do not like Camilla or what she has done to the family, so that should satisfy those who call me a lickspittle!!

I spent two nights in London last June as part of the RBL contingent outside Buck House for the Trooping of the Colour. Not only did we pay for two nights in a hotel, but spent money in restaurants, on the Tube and train, so it all adds to the economy.
Walking through London, there were loads and loads of tourists, taking photos of anything that moved.

It was a four day weekend as opposed to a three day weekend, so that makes a difference. My other post includes the tourists and hospitality sector.

Yes, that isn't an unreasonable suggestion at all. But it's never discussed as an alternative to the injustice of an unaccountable unelected family at head of state, because we always get the lazy "who wants a President Blair or Cameron" type argument.

You mention quite highbrow choices for president. Imagine though that it were the lowest denominator type candidate. Jordan, Rylon (or whatever he's called) or probably worse entities I am unaware of.
