with the rest of the UK population today, i fancy a bbq. only i need to buy one first. anyone know about the Homebase BP gas in lightweight cream/green cannister, £65 seems very expensive. presumably thats just the deposit fee, anyone know what the refill fee is? anyone know of somewhere cheap for butane/propane in the Eastbourne area?

also i notice lava brick arent need anymore, but i quite like them. can you put them on the gas bbq anyway, or are they different setups to work?

related, i want to homebrew using gas in the future, so want to save getting lots of stuff twice. will be indoors/garage so i understand have to use Butane. is it simply a case of changing regulator and i can use butane on the BBQ too (since its warm when you use, dont see the advantage of propane). though i'm starting to wonder for the sake of keeping two bottles its not worth fussing...

think i may end up using the grill at this rate.

Gas barbecues are cheating!!!!

It's the law!!!

Depends what you want I have a Kettle Webber that I use for whole Joints or Chickens.
and a gas Webber that I use probably 3 times a week in the winter and daily in the summer ( bacon and sausage cooked every weekend morning).

Gas saves all the hassle and mess of lighting brickettes or charcoal.

remember, marinade, marinade and marinade then cook the food, low and slow!!

high tem will just burn the outside...and leave the inside uncooked..

forget gas.

the best barbecues you can get are weber kettle barbies IMO. Ours in on at present. Oh and use BigK briquettes. anything else just doesnt do the job

I bought a £300 Outback gas bbq 4 years ago, it was used about 3 times and went and got a £30.00 small kettle bbq from B&Q. Gas is crap.

Try your local independent hardware store rather than Homebase / B&Q - I've found these are usually much cheaper than the big stores.

I've been watching bbq university on good food. It's hosted by a bbq specialist and he mixes it up, but mostly cooks on gas. Have no shame cooking on gas for your bbq, it's perfectly acceptable.

Take a look at amazingribs.com

Will make you hungry if nothing else and in there somewhere the site does debate the gas v. charcoal issue.

Personally I don't think you can go far wrong with a Weber 'one-touch' charcoal grill - seems more in line with the spirit of oudoor grilling. They also do a neat smoker - fantastic for recreating some Texas Hill Country brisket.

this isn't the gas vs charcoal thread, thats elsewhere. this is about the price of gas, lava bricks and can i interchange between propane and butane. anyone assist in these questions?
