I've always liked CMS and I think he gets a hard time by some people on here. His goal return last season was perfectly acceptable and he is different to our other attackers so I'm really looking forward to having him back. However, is he likely to be as fast as he once was after an injury like his? Sadly I would have to say probably not.

I sincerely hope Mr Smith comes back fit and gets the chance to play with Ulloa. I believe we could tear teams apart with two non-ioslated strikers with their potential. In fact the prospect causes mild arousal.

Pace without technique or crossing ability = zilch. Conway's pace picked up as he got more match fit and his crossing is better than KLL's and Noones for that matter. Stop bloody complaining.

Conway will travel down to Brighton to finalise his move to Brighton early this week, deal has been delayed because Cardiff were waiting on confirmation of Zaha's loan from Man United before allowing the deal to go through.

A fee has been agreed between the two clubs and just a case of a medical and agreeing personal terms.

Reliable source who works as a freelance in the media (as per my Grabban information a couple of weeks ago)

Likely to be available for Watford subject to international clearance (FAW)

Reasonable player but not worth the money we wanted to pay. We are not desperate, gone are the days where Dick Knight promised five signings in a window and had to resort to Shane McFaul to meet his quota. Let's go for the right players and aim for quality over quantity. If we end up with nobody then that is better than picking up players just to boost numbers, satisfy fans in the short term and increase our wage bill without noticeably enhancing our team.

I like most your comments on page 5 TCB, where you've been very productive. The one thing I will say relates to your first post on page 5, in which you state that you like pace so much that you think it's more important than technique. I would suggest that Oscar would disagree wildly on that -- see his interview in The Times for instance, which is merely repeating the Barcelona philosophy -- although, like most, he'd prefer both.
This, no doubt, will have some bearing on his selection of the likes of Orlandi, Lopez (and Conway, if applicable) on the one hand, and Buckley and Lua Lua on the other, when -- perhaps more likely if -- they're all fit.

In all seriousness, when was the last time we had a winger who actually played like a 1950/60's style player, i.e. a winger who attacks the full back and heads for the line before crossing it.

It does appear that this part of the game has disappeared from the modern game, but when it does happen it is a devastating tactic as defenders have no time for the ball whipped in from the goal line.

Steve Penney and Tony Towner were the two I did remember, and maybe neil Smilie, but if you use KAZ as an example, he does want to cut in so he can get into shooting position although he has tried a few times to hit the by line.

Valencia at United seems to be what I would call an old fashioned winger.

I have always maintained that a player should have a sale value put on him prior to a loan and the lending club agree to sell him for that priced, . The club loaning him pays 15% of that value to loan him which is refundable if he is bought by them.

You can count on one hand the number of good games Lopez and Conway have each had for us this season. The Leicester game was the only one where they both had one on the same day.



You definitely need the right blend. I'm not advocating dumping the likes of Orlandi and replacing him with a selection of sprinters. I just think a midfield of, for example, Conway - Orlandi - Bridcutt - Andrews - Lopez would be technically very good but unlikely to hurt teams or create a huge number of chances because there is no pace in it. At times, pace is the only way to get behind teams and drag them out of shape, which is why I would never even consider sending out an Albion team without at least one of Kazenga or Buckley in it.

Lopez plays his best when he and Bruno are on form, their interchanges and intuitive understanding over rides the need for pace imo. Once they have worked their way down the wing Lopez or Bruno can deliver the killer ball, all we need is for there to be someone in the box to take advantage.

Agreed, although a pacey attacking full back can also offer this. Ward is defensively sound and has a good work rate, but does not bomb forward and cross the ball as well as Bridge last season.
