Depends how motivated he is by money and European football really....

Everton and West Ham won’t be in Europe any time soon.

Why would Arsenal be looking at a manager with a few months in the PL, with just 4 wins, when they’re looking to compete with Guardiola, Klopp and Mourinho? If they’re looking at young British, Howe has a long record.

Happy with Potter - he's won me over after initially being pretty miffed when we sacked CH. But - isn't this a little premature - and maybe unnecessary? How long was his original contract for?

That's what I was wondering. I'm all for 'protecting assets', but surely not *that* much has changed in six months to convince them he's worth more years? A new contract is a hell of a bonus for completing a probationary period

Ok boomer.
I had to look that one up!

"The phrase "OK Boomer" is a pejorative retort used to dismiss or mock perceived narrow-minded, outdated, negatively-judgemental, or condescending attitudes of older people, particularly baby boomers. The term has been used as a retort for perceived resistance to technological change, climate change denial, marginalization of minorities or opposition to younger generations' ideals."

Thanks for that - going to start using it at work [emoji106]

This extension represents the clear thinking, forward planning, that after all this time i've now started to take for granted from the club.

It has its origins on 4chan, the very best online hangout if you’re a clueless millennial nerd with the sex life of Anne Widdicombe.

I wondered why that is appearing everywhere now

I think a contractual extension after 6 months seems odd, as it doesn't show a lot of confidence in your new man.
I think it shows even more confidence.
Yeah, sorry, my comment was intended to be read along with the post I was quoting. On its own it looks like I was drunk. My point was that the suggestion that his original contract had a probation period would have meant there wasn't much faith shown in the new man when he first signed for us.

Of course a new contract now shows faith in him, if it's not a contractual obligation, as some have suggested.

Doesn't work like that when terminating Contracts in football.
...
Long Contracts rarely benefit anyone but the Club
So if a club decide they want rid of a manager, they don't have to pay any part of their remaining contract? That doesn't sound quite right.

But he is also the manager that beat them in Europe and it would be foolish to think that wasn't noted by the Arsenal hierarchy.

In terms of Everton and West Ham, they would almost certainly offer more money than us and are 'bigger' teams.........

If GPott is to be believed when saying the only sticking point to moving to the Albion was the upheaval for his young family.
I think we can pretty much rule out a move to either of those hatstands.

West ham would hardly be a challenging commute........

For the 6 months he's employed there.
The next job might be somewhat further afield.

But that's not the issue is it? :)

I find it strange to award him an extension so soon, and suggested it may be to ward off Arsenal.

Two years at Arsenal or West Ham would probably be worth more to him than two years with us.

But after two years, further afield might be a good move........ Who knows....... :)

I was wondering with Wolves Nuno now 7/4 to replace Emery if we were not trying to send out a message before the Xmas manager merry go round kicks in

Arsenal perhaps?

Not in a million years. If they are really thinking of offloading someone with their managers CV in favour of Potter then they are mad......... At this stage BG.... who knows the future though. Just not yet.

I didn't say that Triggaaar. And you know full well I can't go into any detail on how things are calculated or negotiated between all parties each time Managers get sacked by Clubs around the country.

He isn't the most charismatic character when it comes to interviews, and his analysis of tactics of where things have gone right and wrong sometimes goes over my head.

In short, this probably means he will be very successful here and else well. A very good decision by the club.
