The mistake here not doubt is you're selecting victoria to brighton. I live in north west london and my family are based in seaford. My friends come from Kent and london

Watching the Albion is not cheap, but with an ST i think it is still reasonable. It sounds like the real cost for you is visiting your family and drinking with your friends. Perhaps your family could visit you a bit more often!

I am no trained psychologist, but i am in agreement over this being the real source of his displeasure. I imagine he just wants to go to the game and probably spend £50 less on occasion, but it's the tacit pressure applied by family expectation on commitment that's nigh on doubling at least expenditure and tampering with his sense of freedom.

For starters you only need to buy a train ticket to Haywards Heath - the rest is covered by season ticket.

Secondly sort yourself out a week in advance (it's not like you don't know when you'll need to travel) and get on this deal for you and friends - basically reduce your matchday travel to £7 each DaySave - Southern railway

Utter rubbish. I travel from London and the train is £20.60 return to Haywards Heath from where your Season Ticket gets you to the ground.

Even if travelling alone, why is anyone paying more than £14??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just logged into National Rail enquiries and used Sunday to find prices and Victoria to Haywards Heath cheapest return is £17.50 but standard is £20 without any rail cards etc.

Yup. I pay £13 with a railcard for a return with travelcard. The OP is being seriously mugged if he's paying £40.

All fair points, and a lol on the pie comment! I'll have a look at the planning ahead with the rail vibe and see if that helps. Still though, I wonder what the uptake will be for tickets for next season?

My daughter went on the ST waiting list at the beginning of this season and was well down that list.

She has not been contacted yet by the club to say that she will get one next season, so I imagine the club still have these fans to fall back on if people like you don't renew.

This is what our son pays to travel from Vauxhall - and he gets to see the family for free! Btw he only gets to around 50% of games at the Amex, maybe a bit less, but wouldn't dream of giving up his ST.

I get a return from London Bridge for every match to Haywards Heath on the 'Super Off-Peak' ticket and it only costs around £9.50 for weekend matches. Week nights are around £14. Don't get back til midnight on week night matches but it alot cheaper than returning the next day.

£10 minimum for food & drinks but realistically more than that plus something from the shop most trips and if the weather is nice a trip into town and some shopping.

You can get a Super Saver Day return to Brighton from London for £10. In addition to this, if you buy 3 tickets together you get 3 for the price of 2.

As there are 4 of you going you could get your travel costs down to £7.50 return for each of you.

Super Saver doesn't require you to pre-book or have any sort of rail card.

We dont eat or drink at the ground anymore, we will Park in Portslade, ( but now thinking of Haywards Heath) get train to Brighton, fill up on Food, take coffee flask, then train Back to Portslade. pick up car and Drive home to Swindon....petrol is expensive enough without spending more money on food and drink.

I chose not to buy a ST but to make the 6 or so home games a season I want and that the dates / times suit PLUS go away which is much more fun anyway AND would be often cheaper if there are 4 of you in a car!

Its good to note that someone has their priorites right and regularly visit family members as well as watching football,reading many comments over the season it appears that match days just involve how early serious drinking can commence then after the event yet more drinking time,by the time they do meet the family they are unlikely to be very sociable.
The number of matches not played on Saturday afternoons does affect family life and must be a factor in deciding whether to renew a season ticket.

£5 by Gus bus from Haywards Heath Savannahs Burger and chips and a pint £6 and what ever I spend in the Stadium. The Stadium is a fantastic facility my have a couple of beers if I can afford it. Some guys join the Gus bus from London via the train.
We will have a couple of more beers this week as our coaches are leaving later than usual, also it St Patrick day.

Ok now I'm certain this is a wind up. A) The train ticket is only £20 if you go up and back the same day. B) It takes just over 90 mins to get from London to the Stadium C) You have to go and see family around every single game to justify attending a football match that takes (B) to get to? Nice attempt at fishing and if you're not then a season ticket really was never for you and best you don't renew.

I am with you on this one, I don't think advice on cheap eating out or rail fares was what the poster was after.
I think he wanted lots of posts saying that they were not renewing.
