Because he comes out with just as much sh!t as Adkins and every other Manager in the football league. Should Saints fans get hysterical about it and bring it up and every possible moment?

Prior to the build up to today's game, could you source some prime Poyet quotes regarding Southampton ? I was just wondering whether the odd obsession is reciprocated.

To be perfectly honest, no I can't. But there is always a first time, so perhaps this was it. Adkins only comment of note was the one in November and now it seems etched in the memories of some as the most heinous crime ever committed. When I heard him (Poyet) blabbering on about there being no difference between SFC and D&R I thought it was a bit ironic. He sounded serious, but maybe he was just on a wind-up. I am not going to get upset, I just thought that it was worth pointing out that he is not immune to idiocy.

I would consider it a compliment.

Adkins has made a number of comments about Brighton, I can remember Poyet being asked - but refusing to be drawn.

And Butterfield. He was class today I thought. In all honesty the comments Gus made about Southampton = Dag & Redbridge + Lambert + Barnard were stupid. I did however agree that you play a similar style
Perhaps we do. I don't know. We trounced them 4-0 early in the season and I missed the away game (3-1 I think) - so my memory of their style of play is not as recent as perhaps yours. Considering they managed 3 goals at your place and conceded four, perhaps it is our defense they need to make the top six, not fatty and the night-club brawler.

The reaction that one - arrogant as it was - probably did get out of hand but then, if a manager says stupid things like that, nobody is going to let him forget it. Most managers would have taken the sting out of that situation later in the season by paying respect, no matter how grudging, to the team that had proved them wrong. What only the sourest loser would do is accuse them of having cheated all season, and I'm afraid that's the category Adkins falls into.

In the 4-3, they looked very good going forward, as you do, but agree totally that their defence was shocking, and so that is why I semi-jokingly said Daggers would be top-six with Lambert and Fonte. Fonte is a brilliant player, and Lambert was teriffic today!

With regards to Twat Hardings comments, does that mean every team has been trying 20% more against Sheff Weds than us aswell

Come on - that is stretching the truth a bit thin. He hasn't accused anyone of cheating all season. He merely pointed out some of the legitimate tactics on regular display at your place during this season. I didn't know anything about the ball-boy tactic until yesterday - and today I witnessed it for myself. Fair play - you do whatever you have to in order to gain an advantage. It is just that some would say "it is just not cricket". He also stated that you get lots of penalties and, well, you do! He also paid you respect. Lots of people have paid you respect - lots of times. How much respect do you need, and why do you care so much about it?

mmm..

...through gritted teeth.

My take on it is this. He has been become increasingly annoyed about being asked about Brighton. The sensible thing to do would be to say nothing, which is how Poyet handled the situation earlier on in the season. But he has bitten on at least two occasions.

Poyet having played at the highest levels is probably a bit more experienced at handling the press. He is good at making the odd headline, but it doesn't come back and bite him on the arse.

Once thing that cannot be denied is Brighton as a club are far more savvy at handling the press than Southampton. Put it down to the stadium campaign or whatever, but it's definitely something Southampton could learn from their South Coast neighbours.

It's very difficult to be outspoken and liked. Warnock just about manages it, Poyet is definitely on the way but Adkins is struggling in that regard.

Lets look at the bigger picture shall we. Looking back on it, No-one is going to remember the fact that Southampton won a meaningless (to us) match on st georges day 2011. What they will remember is that we were the cahampions of league one by a runnaway margin. End of.

I hadn't heard anything about the 'ball boy tactic' either. It used to happen under Micky Adams with the multi-ball system but don't remember anyone complaining this year. I think it was a special treat today just for Adkins. After all, if he's going to mouth off about a bunch of school-kids for kicks, why would they run around for him? And yes, we get lots of penalties.. I think you'll find that's because our passing style has created chance after chance after chance after chance all season. And on top of that apparently the team has a 'foreign mentality' when it comes to influencing referees. I'd say, on balance, that amount to accusing Brighton of cheating their way to the title. We'd have to be bloody good at it though, considering we wrapped up the title in April.....

It's not really about respect for Brighton. It's about the arrogance Southampton have shown to League One and other clubs generally all season with little or no justification. I know several fans of other sides in League One equally sick of a medium-size club's belief that it's somehow one of England's historic "big clubs". Nobody down here's been making that claim about us. Gus has just gone about the business and won the league handsomely. That'll do for us.
