First year of entering the National Pie Awards (the blue riband event for pie makers), winning four Golds and two Bronze medals

Class 4 - Beef and any combination pie
GOLD - Steak, Ale & Mushroom pie

Class 7 - Chicken and any combination pie
GOLD - Chicken Balti pie
GOLD - Chicken, Gammon & Leek pie

Class 11 - Vegetarian pie
BRONZE - Butternut & Spicy Vegetable pie

Class 16 - Football pie (overall Class Winner - Morecambe FC)
GOLD - Butternut & Spicy Vegetable pie
BRONZE - Chicken, Gammon & Leek pie

Don't ask me about the discrepancy of how one pie can win a gold in one class and bronze in another - I've no idea - suffice to say that in the pie world, the Piglets have landed.

A spicy chilli pie, now that would be worth a try........ but as with all commonly available produce with the label ';chilli' or 'spicy', it rarely is actually spicy, always muted down for those who cant tolerate heat,...... sad I know, but true.

That's a bit of a (well deserved) result, can't imagine a match without one of their pies now, in some (rare) instances it's actually been more enjoyable than the game.

Now, there's a story...

I blame the 1901ers.

How dare you, I thought the prototype was lovely, but as has been said, not spicey enough.

Many congrats for Pigletts though

In lieu of a Piglet's pie I am having to make do with these.

In fact I ate two of them this weekend.

Washed down with the usual........

Morecambe make their own pies, fair play to them.

They won best football pie, best small producers pie, and overall supreme champion for their chicken, ham and leek.

The club won £1000 for their efforts, a small amount compared to what Piglets have no doubt earned over the past 9 months.

A few seasons back, at the Shirt Sponsors' bash, I sat at the same table as Iñigo Calderon and Seb Carole. Mr Carole assured me that Mr Calderon NEVER ate pies. In fact, he ate nothing that wasn't awash with olive oil.

Piglets have obviously turned him. Well done!
