Those posting about the usual phone scams have missed the OP's comment that his colleague had given them access. Good chance they have installed some dodgy software.

Just had a call from someone in my office saying they received a call from bt saying our pc is infected. Not sure how they did it but my colleague gave them access to our pc.He said the mouse was moving on its own and various bt webpages were opening up . I knew straight away that it was a scam but he is probably the most untechnical person ive ever met!
You work with Bens Grandad!

Management should have a word with him for being so stupid. You don't give random strangers access to company computers, that should go without saying.

Indeed, the OP has been given sound advice on how to best rectify an awkward situation, whereas others are simply giving examples of tactics and experiences of how they persuade you to allow access in the first place.

'Repkiller' DDOS Ransom Demands

I am aware that businesses across Sussex are being blackmailed into paying £500 in Bitcoin or else their business website (usually restaurants, B&Bs and Hotels) will be hacked and subject of multiple poor reviews thereby causing reputational damage.

Sussex Police Cyber Crime Team are currently investigating all reports and it appears that no one (to date) has paid any monies to the scammers

If you are affected by this, you are advised to retain the email and ensure that you have strong passwords controlling your email accounts and website control panel

You are advised to call Sussex Police on 101 to report the matter

I guess the main thing is what advice are you after? All you seem to be concerned about is your PayPal? If that's because your IT team are already dealing with it then great - change your password on a different machine and I would contact PayPal to warn them just for good measure.

If IT aren't dealing with it I would tell them straight away if you (or your friend) haven't. Unless you don't have an IT team in which case I would reinstall windows or contact your managed service support if you have any

I often thank the caller for telling me and say that I will immediately call the expert who maintains my computer to come and fix it.

I've had the "I'm from Microsoft" call 3 times over the last 5 years. I do have a home network with 6-7 PC/laptops all running various versions of Windows.

Call always starts with "I'm from Windows and we have detected a virus on your computer"

First time: I replied "Wow you blokes are so clever - I don't even have a computer" - he hung up.
Second time: I replied "I don't have Windows, only Apples" [a porky] - he hung up.
Third time: I replied "Surely you mean Microsoft, they make Windows"
he replied "Yeah, yeah"
I said "I work for Microsoft too [another porky], which office do you work in?"
He said "Which office do you work in?"
I said "Bracknell" - he hung up

I love teasing these blokes but there are some professional teasers on YouTube I take my hat off to.
