i brought a laptop last week and the dvd writer seems to have uninstalled itself, i went into device manager and it says the driver is corrupt and needs to be reinstalled, but it didnt come with any driver disks. Any ideas how i can sort this, and yes, i have tried turning in on and off again.

Thanks

Abort, retry, fail
Try googling the laptop. You will have a serial number on the bottom which should help you track down the software - Is it an Advent? I had the same problem. Took it back to PC World to try and get them to sort it - They ended up giving me a completely new laptop, which is much better.

On a train...
The simple answer is don't use Vista as it's shit.

I installed it, realised f*** all is compatible with it, so it was removed a bit sharpish, and XP is now alive and well once again.

What's the exact model ? Actually you should be able to get the all drivers from the HP web site (Compaq are now HP if you didn't know) by looking for the serial number. If in doubt PM me and I'll work it out, I own a Compaq.
