I can just about remember the high diving boards at Saltdean Lido back in the 1960s... which seemed dauntingly high

The OTHER Bus Company, The Brighton Blue Buses...

atlan9.jpg

I can tell you that photo was taken some time between 21/5/97 and 30/6/97 as the fleet number is still 9 and not 809

Who remembers Gamer on Sydney Street and then on East Street? Used to go in there and always ask for a demo of the longest loading game I could find so I could spend ages dossing about in there and sometimes heading into the business section and looking at the amazing Amiga 1000 and original Apple Macs :)

Used to be called the New England Inn. Used to be one of the few places you could get Harveys in the mid-70s.

Anyone remember Noble's Bar in New Road (now Fitzherberts)? It was as small as someone's lounge. Brian, the landlord, used to stand by the door and only allow regulars in after 10.00. Great pint of Harveys there too.

He ran off with the landlady from the Colonnade down the road in the end and the bar changed hands. Shame.

Well I played football for both the Hollingbury Hawks and The 67 Centre so another couple of links for me on this thread, its amazing whats jogging old memories here

Dont remember the 54 going to the Dip in Hollingdean though, was this the one that came up Davey Drive, turned onto the Crossway and down to the dip that way or did it go up to the top of Davey and then down Stephens Road? with the 53 carrying on up Davey Drive, onto Brentwood road and down to Burstead Close before turning around and coming back. How did the 54 get back from the dip? I didnt think any bus used Stanmer Villas or Roedale Road until the 50 SHUTTLE did. Also, dont know if its my mind playing tricks on me but in the days of 53 and 54 (or may have been 58 and 59) buses in Hollingdean, was one of them Southdown and the other Brighton Corporation but both opertaing the same route into Brighton via Lewes Road?

Totally agree - superb thread.

Toilets under the clock tower - I recall using those - you don't see classic victoriana like that any more.

And I spent many many Sunday afternoons kicking a football around in Hove Park at the top end on that pitch. Scratch matches and shouting at owners who let their dogs shit on the pitch during a game.
