was there a steam engine graveyard just outside brighton station on the right before preston park? there until the mid 80's i believe?

I remember a couple of steam engines there as well about that time but the interesting stuff was in the shed on the other side, alot of the overspill from the NRM was kept in the old Pullman works sheds including, I think, a Brighton Belle powercar which was there up until a few years ago when it was removed after the local louts got in and did their artwork all over it :(

Considering when you look at the history of the expansion of Brighton it was pretty much around the time the railway works were in full flow its suprising that there isnt some sort of museum. Infact unless I am wrong the only kind of memorials to anything railway related in Brighton are on the walls of Lewes Road Sainsburys and at the front of Gala Bingo on the Kemp Town station site

trigger..

My Mrs( Ex Plymouth Ave L Bevendean) didnt think the 11 and 12 were blue busses even though that picture is definately a blue one! Certainly the 49 was a blue one!

Anyone remember the theater along the back of the West Pier.

Also Club Papillon under the Royal Albion..

If you look carefully at the front of the bus it shows it was taken just after the takeover of Brighton Blue Busses because it says 'Brighton & Hove'

If I remember correctly (and I was VERY young when it happened) it took some time for all the busses to be re-painted.

Going back to bus colours ... from the date of the 1939 BATS agreement, both Brighton, Hove & District AND Brighton Corporation Transport agreed to use the same red and cream livery. The only difference between the two companies was the logo on the side (although they weren't called logos in those days). Southdown (who were a party to the agreement) kept their green and cream.

Blue Corporation buses came along much later... in 1970. Brighton, Hove & District and Southdown buses began to be painted in National Bus Company green in 1972 (although the two companies had effectively been merged in 1969.
