Old Shoreham Road :o(
The pub under New England Bridge was knocked down to make access for cars heading north into Old Shoreham Road previousley you had a single file road and waited for the lights to go up into Old Shoreham Road imagine the congestion now. Name that pub

The Bridge Inn, it was just down the road from where I live now.

I'm far too young to remember it though!

very random...the old pro shop at Hollingbury Park GC (when it was in Hollingdean) and the smell of lambswool sweaters as you'd enter

In Hollingbury they had the bread man in the 70's/early 80's and a library van.

Oh and a rag and bone man every now and then as well!

I remember the mobile shop van, which used to call, when staying at my nan's in Holland Road, Moulsecoomb. If I was good, I was allowed 10p worth of sweets off the van! I also remember her taking me on the bus into town to the paddling pool on the level and Gamleys in the Arcade...

What year/s did you se Hangleton youth club ?

59/60 ish was good. There was a couple that ran it, they once obtained a copy of The Wild Ones, when it was banned in the cinema, and showed it to us.
They also arranged a barby on Shoreham Harbour beach and wired up some sort of record player to their car. Impressive technology for the time!
Unfortunately I believe they were later arrested, the Guy was allegedly renting her out for some purpose I didn't fully understand at the time. :lolol:

Eric the Greengrocer in Matlock Rd, he used to pinch my mothers bottom. The butcher, near PP station, used to bring out pigs trotters and my sister and I would pull at the tendons to make it wiggle. Happy days.

I think I mentioned on a similar thread; the escalators into the old upstairs entrance to the odeon (none of my friends remember it, and when I showed them the picture someone on here provided for me, they - jokingly I think - accused me of photoshopping it).

Was the Butcher on the corner of Robertson Road, Hampstead Road?

Great place for a store there! Some kind of private palce just full of junk at the moment!

The Greengrocer must be where Matlock Stores is now, next to the Post office

Do your remember Tivoli Stores on the corner of Tivoli Road / The Drove? Until recently BTR brakes (ironic for the Drove) now disused. The council told me I had no chance of getting a alcohol licence for it , great location for that type of thing.

No, it's where the Abacus cafe is

There is a planning notice in the window about an application for an alcohol license. Shame BTR brakes had to move out, nice blokes that worked there.

The Brazil kit on display in Swift Sports window in 1970. I wanted it so badly!

The back room of the Suddeley Arms, Beaufort Inn & various other pubs. Drinking coke, eating crisps & listening to radio Luxembourg while Mum had a drink with her fella!

brighton, actually
no pics, but a few memories..

The old North Road swimming pool, with various holes in the red brick walls, made with coins (i guess), while waiting to be let in..
helping swim club owners bring down lane markers, floats etc from the storage room got you through the queue, on club nights!
Once saw my female maths teacher naked in her cubicle, getting changed- someone ran along pushing open all the doors!

Bells fish and chip shop, opposite St. Peters chuch- i think where buffet island is now? quite funky takeaway boxes..?

Xmas parties at Southdown bus depot, where my dad used to work- Victoria Road Portslade (now replaced by a Nissan dealership?)- older kids got taken out to a show, young'uns played havoc in the games room. always too much jelly for one person, and a coach ride home with a jamboree (sweets) bag.

Gamleys in the Imperial Arcade.. spent many happy hours trying out the games, collecting matchbox cars, playing on a jumbo sized Connect4.. really let down one xmas when brother ans his wife took me shopping for toys.. ended up with some duff mastermind game instead.

Odeon cinema, with the escalator going up to the side entrance..

Rifle shooting crockery range on the (palace) pier, and a fresh donut making machine too...

hmmm donuts!

almost forgot Lazerquest, along Wester Road. blinding smoke, cumbersome target back packs, and just maybe a chance to pinch the bum of a gal you fancied, without getting caught..

not quite brighton, but the big park (Brooklands?) in Lancing had some rocks to climb around, with narrow water ways you could play in / slide down maybe? the wooden tower was also fun.. used to scare parents silly, going up to the top, but climbing on the outside of the walls!

Anyone remember the Real Ghost train on the palace pier where Horatio's is now. Scariest thing I had ever been on (as a youngster)
