What an outrageous headline and predictably we are described as 'lowly'

Mendoza hang your head in shame buying that silly comic!

So in footy top trumps,

Forster wins on

Age,
Appearances,
Goals,
Number of Clubs.

Ronaldo wins on

Transfers
Weekly Wage
International Apps/Goals

Therefore its a 4-3 win for our Nicky

Brighton name Gus Poyet as new manager | The Sun |Sport|Football

GUS POYET has revealed he turned down Real Madrid for lowly Brighton.

The Uruguayan - named as Seagulls boss today - opted to stay in England for a chance to manage a club for the first time rather than go as No 2 to the Spanish giants.

Former Chelsea and Tottenham midfield star Poyet was appointed by the League One strugglers in place of the sacked Russell Slade and has signed an 18-month contract.

But Poyet could have gone to the Bernabeu instead if he had accepted an offer to be assistant to former Spurs coach Juande Ramos.

He said: "We left Spurs together in October and in December I was asked to go to Real Madrid. But I preferred to stay in England because I wanted to manage a club of my own."

Poyet could have been working alongside global superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

That little lot cost the thick end of £200million.

Instead, his Brighton troops include former Gillingham and Brentford front man Nicky Forster, plus ex- Stansted striker Gary Hart, Stockport old boy Liam Dickinson and homegrown defender Adam Virgo.

But maybe Poyet made a wise move as Real axed Ramos in June!

Uruguayan international Poyet, 41, beat off competition from Steve Cotterill, Southend's Steve Tilson and John Gregory to become Brighton's third manager of 2009.

Previously he had been assistant to Dennis Wise at both Swindon and Leeds before joining Ramos.

Poyet said: "It was a good decision to be an assistant so that I could learn the ropes. I feel I am ready to be a manager now.

"I think these can be exciting times at Brighton and I am confident in my ability to make a difference."

Brighton have had seven players sent off this season and have won only three of their 15 league matches.

Wealthy chairman Tony Bloom said: "Gus is one of the best up-and-coming young managers in the country and we are delighted to give him his first job in management.

"His credentials are excellent and we feel he can be a big success.

"The club is moving to a new ground in the next year or two and we hope he takes us there."

£1,000 per week

Times that figure by at least 3. There will be at least 3 players who earn over 150k per year at Brighton and Forster will be one of them.

Last year the sun reported that Adam Virgo was our highest paid player on £150,000/year. That was just after the Man City game.
