That's harsh. It's all very well people saying you should have decked him, but if you're the type that's never had a scrap (not saying you are, just speculating) then you'd just get your head kicked in. You could keep something metal and heavy in the boot for this kind of situation.

I haven't had a proper fight since I left school in 1989, nad the guy was about 6'4", so I'm pretty comfrtable with my decision.
The main thing is that he was out of control, and would not have given a shit - that's the sort of guy who will not know when to stop.

I totally agree, just hate that impotent feeling you get when things like that happen and you know there's f*** all you could have done about it.

I know what you are saying. The important thing for me is weighing up what I am putting at risk before engaging in provked violence toward another bloke:

1. Police arrest and loss of job and livelihood

2. Physical harm or injury likely to sustain 1 above.

No brainer really. Fight only in self defence.

All of the above, plus my wife was there, an there is pretty much nothing that would goad me into escalating a voilent situation, if it meant potentially putting her at any risk.

As it happens I do Aikido, and took it up for situations just like this. I highly recommend it for anyone regardless of age, size or fitness level. It is designed to deal with f*** wits like this, knife or no knife.

You dipstick Lokki.

So a bloke tries to jump you and you try and resolve the situation by solving a number puzzle with him?

If I were to go down that route I prefer the idea of Kendo, so I get to wear a fancy mask and hit him with a big stick. I suspect that the law may have some issues with that, though.

You get to use big sticks in Aikido too. :) But more importantly you learn to defend against big sticks, and knives. Hopefully I will never have to use these techniques for real but it's comforting to know them. You don't get a cool mask, but if you get to black belt you get a SKIRT.

Shit KFC, sorry to hear this.

I actually think that if you reported it there is a good chance that this cocknocker would be caught because the chances are he/she would have committed other offences on the day either prior to or following your attack.

That said, I was assaulted when I worked in A&E by a bloke who on the same day attacked a Paramedic and a Cop, It took 18 months to get to court as he pled innocent , during which time my Holidays etc were regularly messed about thenon the day I went to court he pleaded guilty so I never testified anyway.

He got 6 months BTW

Sounds like the kind of guy who would go home and do the very same thing to the woman that was with him ................ and probably wouldn't remember doing it to either of you.

I was on the Isle of Wight for a day last year and there was some guy totally out of it either through drink or drugs who was really mouthing off to his girlfriend and giving her the odd clatter around the head. He actually scared me so didn't intervene but again I doubt he would have remebered it a couple of hours later.

If a case goes to court, then all parties names are commonly known in the courtroom. I was on jury duty a couple of years ago for an assualt case, and maybe that has coloured my view on such things.

It was a case of one gang of 4 lads in Basingstoke beating shit out of two other lads, but the lawyers for the 4 managed to make it sound like a 'fair fight' / 6 of one... It was patently not true but for 2 weeks we sat there and watched the defendants glaring in the dock at the victims and their families, plotting their future retribution.

And if this guy did have my name, he wouldn't have to be very bright to find us. Its a very uncommon name and we're in the phone book.
