I am sure his commentary was top notch, however I doubt he will doing it Tuesday as he will be on an all dayer with the cricket at Hove. His rendition of Sussex bt the Sea after we won the first championship was great.

I am sure I read he gets up 3 or 4 in the morning to do all the morning sports reports on Radio Sussex. So by kick off he must be shatered. I was suprised tohear him say that was the first game he had ever covred at Withdean. Probably spent more time training there when he was a succesfull athlete.

John lees ? doing the commentry ? no wonder we won;from memory a hugely enjoyable commentator to listen to,treads a fine line between all out exitement leading to mis pronouncition of players names and oddball them were the days mid attack recitals, only to find out 2 mins later we or they scored! master stroke of genius re employing mr lees even if just for the day.

The Hawes replacement has undoubtedly been a bad luck omen for us. And as for John Lees, anyone who has the bottle to wake up next to Liz Costa has my respect. No wonder he does the breakfast shift on BBC Sussex :lolol:

Leesy is simply the best. Hove man all his life, battles with asthma, represented Great Britain at Road Walking, Held the record for quickest walk from coast to coast, USA; legend in broadcasting circles, loves all sport but his passion is Sussex Cricket and the Albion. plus he is a great bird watcher and goes all over GB and Europe "twitching".
Up every weekday at 3.0am to get into the studio to prepare the morning sport bulletin.
Love him or hate him there is no one else quite like Leesy.

Intersting, my old man couldn't make it yesterday- he thought JL was TERRIBLE, and never once mentioned how long was left.

Opinions I guess....

He also refuses to watch ITV even if his team (Liverpool) are on.

John is the best commentator we've ever had, and a super hero. Imagine living with Liz when she goes into one. Ouch.

I enjoyed John Byrnes comment the bestest yesterday:

"Oldham have just committed their own suicide there"

Sussex legend, yes, but commentator?

In the old days i could never work out who was doing what as there'd be loads of oooh's & ahhh's about a corner/shot/goal and you'd be screaming at the radio "who too???"

Love to hear him though.
