Probably working!
Ryan

Lamptey
Duffy
Dunk
Burn
Bernardo

Stephens
Propper
Bissouma
Macillister

Maupay

Same 11 players for every game until the end. Mooy shouldn’t be anywhere near the 11.

I really like the look of this team, although disagree with the harsh sentiments about Mooy. But it has to be said he looked a much better player before we signed him permanently.

GK: Ryan;
Back three: Dunk; Duffy; Burn;
Wing backs: Lamptey; Bernardo;
Midfield (diamond): Stephens protecting the defence, Alzate and Propper ahead of him, and MacAllister at the top of the diamond/no.10;
Striker: Maupay.

Play that line up (assuming no injuries) for the next 6 matches, come hell or high water, and see where that leaves us.

By default last season. This year it's much more competitive among those bottom 6. If we were employing the same tactics again, do you genuinely think we would have any prospect of staying up? We were barely crossing the halfway line, let alone having a shot from March onwards. This time around, we're always in with a shout. It looks bleak - but we're not a shambles. The 3 clubs that go down will all know that it could have been any of 5 or 6.

And prior to March?

It was competitive last season as well, Huddersfield apart.

I think we’d be in a similar position in all honesty, but it’s all very hypothetical as we might have signed different players.

But you build a team from the back and we looked more solid, whereas now it feels like we could concede at any moment. (I know our goal difference is good). It certainly works for Burnley and Sheff Utd.

Although ‘we cross the halfway line’ more, if anything we stop before the penalty area and hit speculative shots (pea-rollers, but nonetheless counted as a shot on target).

I think it’s too easy to criticise Hughton, who kept us in the division, rather than what the actual issue is, which is poor recruitment for 3 seasons.

Potter has the same issues as Hughton faced but at the minute is statistically worse off in terms of points. However, as you correctly point out we were shocking around now, so I remain positive Potter can turn it round.

We haven’t seen Lamptey in the stripes and yet he is now first choice RB for so many. SO NSC!

Looking forward to seeing him but not ready to put him up as a saviour.

Same here add MacAllister to that.....

Already feel sorry for them

Just need to look at our 2 best results this season, 3-0 v Spurs and 2-1 v Arsenal. Common link? Maupay and Connolly from the start, Ryan, Stephens, Mooy, Gross, Burn, Dunk, Webster and Alzate played both. Alzate played right back versus Arsenal and in Midfield versus Spurs. Propper and Montoya played one each. Only choice is where to play Alzate and the last choice is the position Alzate doesn’t play. Bench should offer an many options as possible. Tinker to get us back into a match, go solid from the start.

Pick a first choice defence and play them every week. Changes can be made in the midfield and forwards but keep the defence stable.

The tinkering was what got us an unexpected and valuable point at Sheffield United. He picked a team and formation for the conditions and the occasions.

You need to pick a team for the situation, picking the same 11 every week is nonsense.

Back to 5 at the back with quick(er) WBs.

Ryan

Lamptey Dunk Burn Webster Bernardo

Stephens
Propper Bissouma/ Alzate
Two from MacAllister, Murray and Maupay

Mooy has been gash since signing permanently and Trossard is better off the bench. I'd also have Connolley on the bench every week to run a defence ragged for the last 15 mins when everyone's knackered.

And another.

Or, what would you do?

Seemingly the comedy gold that is a GPott team selection is the main reason we're shitehouse.

Posters seem to be suggesting if only Potter would play a settled team, everything would be alright.

Yet nobody can agree on what this settled team would look like.
Nobody can pick 8 other players to join Dunk, Ryan & Propper - 6.

Solly's 'clearly not good enough'.
Yet 3 weeks ago he 'must start every week'.

Exactly the same can be written about Mooy.

Were Ali and Groß starting, I'm adamant they now also 'wouldn't be good enough'.

The squad is full of 'impact' subs.

Spending £15m each on all your footballers gets you a team of near indentical £15m footballers.

Everyone is screaming for stability, but everyone wants a different stability, kind of says it all really, doesn't it?

Ain’t it just so...you only need to look at the team for the next game thread ...but NSC isn’t really unique ..most clubs supporters would choose different teams

Trying to get his thread count up with a 24/7 NSC presence.

With tributes still pouring in about a recently deceased former poster that had an arguably worse history of excessive thread generation, this really is a comment you might want to reflect on.

What more can GP do. He sets up the team with a style of play that sets up more chances than you can poke a stick at. Its hardly is fault that Solly misses sitters, Maupay strikes straight to the keeper when an inch either side and it would have been in, not to mention same bloke saving a goal bound header from Dunk. We have the system just not the payers to capitalise on it. Don't know what happened with Trossard, he was such a promise at the start of the season, then he got injured and ever since he has been ineffectual. I dont think we have the players good enough to have a settled team. CH did that and we survived by the skin of our teeth, and a big thankyou to Palace for saving our place in the league. I read a piece somewhere discussing transfer fees. The bloke was saying that essentially 15 to 20m buys you uncertainty, and that is what we have got.

He needs to say, thank you very much for the opportunity Tony but me and my team are off back to the lower leagues because we have no idea how to manage at this level.
Bruno then gets the last few games to try a pull something out of the bag on the fact the players may fight for him due to the respect they have for him!

Either way we are 99% down!

have you bet on us getting relegated?

And prior to March?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Prior to March, I'd say we were extraordinarily fortunate last season. Heading towards Christmas, Murray had ridiculous stats - something like scoring with 7 of his only 8 shots all season. That luck was never going to be sustainable. This time around, the underlying figures have always suggested we will start scoring and winning... unfortunately, it hasn't happened. Maybe because confidence has tailed off with results.

Potter says his job is to improve the players he's got. So, how is he doing? Which players have improved as the season's progressed? Here's my list:
Alzate
Hmmm... Ali J perhaps
Hmmm...Schelotto, a big maybe...

I know it's subjective, depends on the team selected, on team confidence etc.
I'm just saying this measure is Potter's own.
I want him to stay...there is a lot of work to be done.

Schelotto has got more lairy

He can only pick the players he has !!!
.

Trouble is he shipped out several players and didn't replace them. He'd have more to pick from if he hadn't inexplicably decided to get rid of Knockaert, Locadia and Andone without replacing them. Also he didn't seem bothered by not signing anyone in the January window when nearly all the fans were crying out for the club to sign another striker. So yes he can only pick the players he has but he could have had several more to choose from but doesn't thanks to his decision.

*EDIT* I see you've basically replied to a post similar to mine already.
