A list of interesting stastics and our place in the Premier League...

Touches - 5th
Passes - 5th
Shots - 6th
Offsides - 5th
Big chances missed - 6th
Tackles - 7th
Clearances - 15th
Goals - 14th

Now to me those stats don’t paint a picture of a team or manager devoid of attacking ideas, they appear to indicate a team devoid of someone who can shoot early enough or be relied on to put the ball in the net.

Agree with the first paragraph, but how many of our best players will leave if we get relegated? Several, I expect, and then I fear it will be a good 2-3 years of rebuilding a squad for another promotion; 2-3 years at least of mid-table mediocrity in the Championship, with mid-week games on a wet Tuesday night at Hull, Stoke or Wigan.

We are not slamming out of the league with a huge wage bill and sinking like a stone. Yes a few players will leave but also a decent number will stay, add that some of the prospects in the youth set up and I think we can be challenging from next season. Still might take us a few though.

Don't get me wrong, going down isn't going to be pretty but I think we can ride it out and continue our regression.

Wow!! are those right? We are closer to being a really good team that I was thinking.

All we have to do is sort out the shooting/finishing problem. Shame we didn't do it in January or in the summer.

Or, what would you do?

Seemingly the comedy gold that is a GPott team selection is the main reason we're shitehouse.

Posters seem to be suggesting if only Potter would play a settled team, everything would be alright.

Yet nobody can agree on what this settled team would look like.
Nobody can pick 8 other players to join Dunk, Ryan & Propper - 6.

Solly's 'clearly not good enough'.
Yet 3 weeks ago he 'must start every week'.

Exactly the same can be written about Mooy.

Were Ali and Groß starting, I'm adamant they now also 'wouldn't be good enough'.

The squad is full of 'impact' subs.

Spending £15m each on all your footballers gets you a team of near indentical £15m footballers.

Everyone is screaming for stability, but everyone wants a different stability, kind of says it all really, doesn't it?

No Propper for starters he’s been shite and boring for ages, can’t run, tackle and his attempt at headers is laughable for a grown man.

But he along with Ryan and Dunk are as close as we've got to ever present.

I do hope you haven't been moaning about the endless tinkering

Play 4 defenders and the best players in those positions would be a start.

Dunk and Duffy at CB
Bernardo at LB
Decide between Montoya/Lamptey

Midfield: Stephens

Decide between: Propper/Alzate/Gross/MacAllister/AJ

Play: Murray and Maupay

Gross creates the most chances accomplished to the stats

Mooy is woefully off-form
Solly and Trossard bench only
Burn CB and LB cover
Webster playing better currently, but not strong enough in reality
Schelotto can’t defend

We all like a stat however the shots stat is misleading as our shots are in general from twelve yards plus, we do not create enough clear cut chances. We aren't far off being a good side but for me the problem is we don't gamble in the final third and get more players in or around the box.

Yep, those stats are 100% correct...

I think our big problem (no shit Sherlock) is the shooting. I am not sure why, but no-one appears to want to take responsibility and shoot early, resulting is shots being blocked and big opportunities missed.
The stats don't lie, we are doing a LOT of things right, bar the goal scoring!

Agreed. There are only 1 or 2 players who justify their place week in, week out and they get picked. He could take the Hughton approach of never changing anything when it was going wrong and, guess what, we’d get the same outcome every time.
.

staying in the division for two years?

This is the bit that takes 10s of millions to solve...... or a great deal of luck/scouting.

Agree with most of what you say, excepting the "don't create enough clear cut chances", looking at those stats, we do, but we miss them - 6th most profligate in the division.

Knocky is a debatable one and we can half agree on that.

But Andone was looking like a special little player for us. No doubt he is a little shit to manage. A pain. No doubt.

But that is what managers have to do, and it might have been a failing of Potters to get rid and not even try. We’re Brighton, we don’t have a wealth of top class international strikers to call upon.

My question to you is; what would Potter have to do for you to criticise him? The results speak for themselves surely.

I’d love GP to turn this round. I love his football philosophy. I hope I’m wrong but to me its starting to look like he’s being found out a bit in the top level.

Don’t get me wrong ... Potter has made mistakes and I have criticised him.

But for me the failings in the last few weeks haven’t been all on Potter..... I think he tinkered to much before Christmas and players lost some form and I believe he needs to stop making so many positional changes and his use of Alzate is baffling. But the players are massively underperforming on a match day and it’s leaving Potter with little option but to make changes more regularly. March and Maupay make no mistake should have won the game for us yesterday.

Yep, presently we are missing the luck element, otherwise Dunk's header wouldn't have almost taken Maupay's head off yesterday...

That was unbelievable! We really had some great chances yesterday........ on another day......... during another season.
