Somehow Potter needs to get more players to believe in themselves, we also need some luck. Failing that we are probably going down. The tinkering needs to stop too. Decide on a team and give them a run. We are rapidly approaching The Last Chance Saloon.

Or, what would you do?

Seemingly the comedy gold that is a GPott team selection is the main reason we're shitehouse.

Posters seem to be suggesting if only Potter would play a settled team, everything would be alright.

Yet nobody can agree on what this settled team would look like.
Nobody can pick 8 other players to join Dunk, Ryan & Propper - 6.

Solly's 'clearly not good enough'.
Yet 3 weeks ago he 'must start every week'.

Exactly the same can be written about Mooy.

Were Ali and Groß starting, I'm adamant they now also 'wouldn't be good enough'.

The squad is full of 'impact' subs.

Spending £15m each on all your footballers gets you a team of near indentical £15m footballers.

Everyone is screaming for stability, but everyone wants a different stability, kind of says it all really, doesn't it?

Right my opinion, no more important than any one else’s, is as follows (please note that I am avoiding making comment on the last two games, but offering an overall view of the last year or two)

Solly March - No more than average, even at Championship level.

Murray - Great club servant, should not have been offered contract extension as he is OLD by Prem standards and it shows a lack of ambition.

Trossard, Maupay - OK, but need either quality service or a quality foil to play off.

Proper, Gros - Many out there that could replace them

Stephens- Alright, but needs another DYNAMIC partner alongside

Alzate, Connolly- Great prospects, but not quite regular names on first 11 yet

Izzy -Who knows

Ali- Could be great with enough quality around him

Not talking about keeper and defence as we are reasonably blessed.

What’s missing?

A QUALITY STRIKER - necessity that has been missing for far too long.

But who picks the players?

And who chooses the starting line up and who gets in the squad?

He can only pick the players he has !!!

Yesterday the style and approach and tactics worked .... we just missed the chances that the game presented us.

This can be said about at least half a dozen games this season !!

At what point are the players who aren’t up to it going to be replaced with better ? That’s not up to Potter.

At last! Someone prepared to listen to my pearls of wisdom!

Well, I’d bring back Stephens and move Propper much further forward. Our defence is much better with his screening and Propper is pretty poor at defending.

I’d play Murray every game with the instruction to stay well up the field and central, not out wide. He’s a proven goal scorer and if he gets game time he may well nick the goals to save us!

He can also provide the knock downs for Maupay to run onto and take some pressure off him in the box. It’s a bit rich to keep knocking Maupay for his misses. He’s got eight goals with a quarter of the season still left so is on course to get maybe 12-15 this season (if he starts putting away more chances). Pretty good for his first season!?

When are the midfield ever going to weigh in with a few goals!

I’d only use March and Trossard as impact subs. Both are pretty peripheral throughout most games.

I’d consider replacing Mooy with Gross. He’s well out of form and his set piece delivery is no better than Gross.

Don’t think this implies a completely settled first eleven but think this would give us a better chance of staying up.

Job done!

Who needs Sam Allardyce? I’ll accept payment in the form of my 1901 season ticket being free going forward......

Very well said Sir. Totally agree about Murray being played put wide, we were scratching our end at that yesterday. 36 is a bit late to turn into a winger.

Which is the crux of my point.

How can he decide on a team when the players aren't backing up his faith in selecting them.

Or, as seems even more hampering:-

When the players are unable to replicate their substitute performances into 90 minutes.

Yes but don’t you get that it’s Potter who’s made the call on who’s recruited and who was let go?

“He can only pick the players he has”..

Then why didn’t he pick Andone or Knockeaet, whoops. Instead it’s a championship striker and 36 year old Murray.

Remember Potter told us all we didn’t need to buy. Happy with the squad etc. The manager has to take responsibility, surely.

I’d say the bells already been rung and we’ve been sat drunk in the corner for some time never mind ‘approaching’. :)

Your either blinkered to make a point or naive.

Andone was pushing for a move and kicked the door down with his red against Southampton.

Oh and that’s Knocky that’s turning in absolutely BANG average performances for Fulham in the championship.

Potter has joined the long list of managers at this club who trot out that line .... CH said exactly the same last season in Jan and look where that got us.

I’m not saying Potter has no blame in this ... of course he has. But right now my focus is solely on the players stepping up and actually performing because they are at fault and not just Potter.

It’s not just about having a settled team. It would also be good for the players to know their role in the team and work to improve and build partnerships. As an example; Stephen Alzate. Where does he play ? It is valid to question the selection tinkering. It is also worth noting that NSC is not a homogeneous voice. I do not and never have (this season) thought that Gross, March and Ali J are the answer.

Alzate should play in central midfield to be most effective

Knocky is a debatable one and we can half agree on that.

But Andone was looking like a special little player for us. No doubt he is a little shit to manage. A pain. No doubt.

But that is what managers have to do, and it might have been a failing of Potters to get rid and not even try. We’re Brighton, we don’t have a wealth of top class international strikers to call upon.

My question to you is; what would Potter have to do for you to criticise him? The results speak for themselves surely.

I’d love GP to turn this round. I love his football philosophy. I hope I’m wrong but to me its starting to look like he’s being found out a bit in the top level.

We're a long way off threatening FFP so not sure why that's being introduced and our cost base isn't dissimilar to several clubs above us

I just mean that the board are running the club in a reasonable sensible way. I am glad about this as I don't want to see them gambling our future with irresponsible spending. I haven't looked at the accounts so don't really know how close we are to FFP at the moment, more referring to the way was steered out of the Championship.

We're obviously a bottom 6 PL club but that doesn't really correlate to a top 6 Championship club

I don't see a great deal of difference between bottom of the Premier League and top of the Championship. This may be demonstrated if we get relegated as it will not be that easy to get back again....... although I think we will be well placed to get back up eventually.

and nor do I see being relegated as being consistent with 'our future has never looked better' statement

You have taken this hugely out of context.

I think we've royally ****ed up, there are lots of moving parts that have contributed to that and it could take years to recover. Far from progressing, I'm of a view we've gone backwards since being promoted

You may be right, no-one knows what is going on behind the scenes. I would disagree though. It looks to me that the club has never been in better shape or in better hands.

Lets face it though, what we think makes no difference as we don't have all the facts at our disposal and we aren't the ones making the decisions. At present I haven't lost my faith in the board, manager and most of the players. I think we need to hold our nerve here after some truly awful results and some disappointing performances (yesterday was the former rather than the latter).

Keeper (I’m undecided if Ryan keeps his place)

Lamptey
Dunk
Burn
Bernardo

Stephens

AJ
Propper
MacAllister
Alzate / Trossard

Maupay

As a side note

Seems to be a problem that when we Switch play to the left Dan burn is in the LW position, he’s a great defender but isn’t a winger and doesn’t have the ability to take someone or with an end product.

You look at how we are set up when we are well advanced in their half, not enough movement and players literally standing around offering nothing, result in a Biss or March wild shot after pissing about

When he did pick Andone, he cost us three points that would have come in very handy about now.

You will have already noticed from the other thread, perhaps, that I agree with you (#letpottergetonwithhisjob) but have received short shrift for my witheringly sarcastic replies to those who think they know better that GPott. I have nothing to add.

However, football, as you will know, is all about opinions. Perhaps its only about opinions. That's my opinion, anyway. Fact.

Unbelievable..........

6 wins all year
,

I presume you mean season, we have had no wins this year which is obviously very disappointing.

lost the players,

I haven't seen any evidence of this

constant chopping and changing of the team which emphasises he doesn’t know he best 11.

I am not sure there is such a thing as a best 11 these days. Outdated notion in my opinion.

He comes across as completely clueless (similar to Hyppia) in his interviews.

Your opinion, I disagree. I certainly disagree with those on here calling him clueless. This, to me shows a massive lack of perspective .

Potterball is a myth of passing the ball around a lot at the back.

You may not like possession football but I and plenty others believe that football should be played this way.

What exactly is the something special you predict?

The top ten finish that Tony Bloom talks about, maybe even throw in a jaunt into Europe

We are a bottom 6 of the Premier League/Top 6 of the Championship club with a bottom 6 of the Premier League/Top 6 of the Championship budget and wage structure. (I am thankful that we are in the main keeping to financial fair play and not gambling the future of our club.)

This is better than we have ever been, with a squad full of the best players we have ever had. We are moving in the right direction as a club and our future has never looked better.

The fact that we may/will drop back into the Championship is a mere bump in the road of our progress to improvement.

I am happy with the progress we have made under Potter and think we are on the way to something special. A reaction now to sack him may keep us in the Premier League but I think we also need to keep an eye on the bigger picture. Something I trust the board and Bloom to do.

Agree with the first paragraph, but how many of our best players will leave if we get relegated? Several, I expect, and then I fear it will be a good 2-3 years of rebuilding a squad for another promotion; 2-3 years at least of mid-table mediocrity in the Championship, with mid-week games on a wet Tuesday night at Hull, Stoke or Wigan.
