Even the best clubs getting promoted are usually a couple of players short on quality. To have missing players with replacements in important matches might make it less of a lottery.

We used 31 players last season (5 for less than a whole game). The squad is merely 23. Calling for numbers 12 and 21 to be filled. 25 is like a Premier League squad but we play 8 to 11 more games. So we might need 26 or 27?

Greer and Wilson not replaced. Who do we want?

One defender and one striker would be lovely. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this before anywhere.

I thought that it was posted on here that Lua Lua had gone back to number 25 but it appears not so.

I thought that as well, and he was wearing 25 the other night (Knockers was in 27 still which also confused me)

but on the shirt personalisation it has LuaLua as 30 still

Squad numbers are stupid. Teams should be 1 to 11 irrespective of who is playing.

He did switch back although not sure if he has now reversed and stayed at 30. He changed his Twitter and Instagram usernames although one is now 25 (insta) and the other 30 (Twitter)

Ps we already have a number 12, we just don't announce the DS (with the exception of Elvis) numbers.

James WILSON - slots in effortlessly back at squad number 21 (again).

Plus he will be fit - a lot of denials about him being ill - but he looked like death in every match photo after Christmas. Maybe he over-celebrated his 20th birthday on 1 December.....

Weaknesses identified last season:

Protecting the lead: This might be best served by playing the possession game and getting a (defensive*) midfielder who can hold on to the ball? (*enabling Stephens to push forward more when chasing the game)

Finishing scoring chances: conventional wisdom is to squander money on a new forward. I think we might be able to coach one or more of existing players to play the second striker role? This is an important position though.

Defender partly because of our injury situation, and a deficiency in left sided defenders and because our zonal defending showed we failed to pick up on aerial threats. Defending counter attacks says very weak, and the absence of a specialist defensive midfielder (tactical) and defender with a bit of pace may help. I favour mixed zonal and marking in defence from set pieces. Pick out their danger men and have one player on the goal line.

Aside; watching Leicester last season and there late substitutions were not for an extra defender but often lightweight wingers. This was a surprise, and I can only think they wanted players who could keep hold of the ball (opposition cannot score when we have the ball) when leading by a single goal.

PS: all new signings should be 26 or under. No loan players as first choice.

26 players is about right, with maybe a 27th joining in January.

#12 - Central Defender
#21 - $triker

Upgrade #22 in midfield, and maybe switch out #19 for another striker.

12: left sided central defender/left back
21: defensive midfielder in the tenacious mould

Second striker can be Knockaert or Solly March or an improved Baldock.

Ideally, the players should be available and match fit for the visit to Newcastle. I have no objection of the second striker coming deep behind the one main striker for difficult away games. Extra midfielder to keep hold of the ball when we are leading (to rectify our failure to keep leads in some cases).

There is something to what you say, but Knockaert and March are much better utilzed in other positions. Knocky deeper, and Solly wider.

I still rate Baldock playing off Hemed I'm afraid, and now we have Murray to consider too.

No no no there's nothing in what is said.

Wingers play on the wing, forwards play in the middle.

If, once again, CH has to shoe horn square pegs into round holes, we'll be staring down the barrel of yet another frustrating season.

The squad can all but guarantee creating goal scoring opportunities for the entire season.
What's the point of spending all that combined money and then balking at the cost of the players who can convert the chances.

What happened to total football? Albion have too many specialised players?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brighton_&_Hove_Albion_F.C.#Current_squad

11 of squad are home-grown (8 minimum in the Premier league)

Still looking for that magical second striker in the Jimmy Greaves/Peter Ward/James Vardy style.

"Main Mission on The Field

So what are your main duties when playing as deep lying forward? Well, you should work hard to create scoring opportunities for your attackers."

Baldock has only got a 20% chance of scoring in 90 minutes. Get that up to 40% and he will be OK. I don't go for going out and buying a player if the existing players can adapt*. Excludes left back, of course. Baldock has the scoring rate of a second rate winger #. (*99% of the workers have to adapt to their jobs which won't fit in.) ( # a pre-match computer simulation of our match v Boro even had Baldock missing two good chances!)

Second striker can join the a striker(s) and try to score and can then run into space or of the shoulders of the defender which Lualua won't do (I'm told the legendary Stanley Matthews was the same?).

Norwood chose 16 this season at Reading as that is what he wore in the Euro's I highly suspect it'll be the same here. A youth team goalkeeping coach doesn't need a squad number.
