Colin Powell,supports Obama.

Point is, the Obama campaign are aware that racism will cost them votes, however, in the US. You have to registe to vote through a Party. The Obama campaign has broken all records in getting new registrations, there has been 50% increases in some areas, if the campaign can get these people to vote as well, then he will roll.

Lets also not forget he only needs to win a certain number of key states and with the electoral college that goes it (ie big states have more lets say points) and he will win. As far as I can tell he has a number of these states already in the bag.

But if I recall I don't think Powell was an out and out republican, I believe he was courted by both main parties b4 deciding upon the REpublicans, so I imagine, the impact is not as great as if Blaitr told everyone to vote for Cameron.

Of course the Americans are racist, why else would they have separate black ghetto's, Asian ghetto's. white working class ghetto's. The whole point is that America has got to change, and at the moment The Obama campaign looks like the best card to do it.

US elections are so scientific, the DEmocrats have calculated what they will lose in votes they will gain elsewhere. But the opposition is not strong and look at the state of their economy and a war the nation is now againgst.

By rights the Democrats should walk it.

McCain should've picked Powell as his Vice President running mate (if Powell would've wanted the job, that is). Would've stole some of Obama's thunder with another popular African-American leader.

Not arguing whether the democrats will win it, i'm arguing that perhaps obama has an agenda in favour of his own colour the same that a white politician may have, the comment his wife made about not being proud of america speaks volumes about their true attitude.

Sure it is, and its also f***ing hypocritical to castigate white people for doing the same.
It's not though is it. Because the situation for your average white American and black American are not the same.

As Colin Powell has proved, racism will ALSO cost John Mccain votes. You cannot have it only one way , however much you might want to.
Has he actually said "I'm voting for Obama because he's half black" then? ???

tell that to some piss poor coal miner in west virginia . or an unemployed auto worker in michigan, or any of the people who have fallen foul of positive discrimination.

Always a hard one this. He is not a Jessie Jackson. Obama has made a number of key speeches telling african americans basically to get off their arses.

His constituency is the working class, liberals, liberal middle class. The black population falls neatly into that grouping.

Any policies and programmes to directly help the wotking class: improved public welfare and health will indirectly help the black population.

I haven't seen any stats on it yet but at all previous elections fewer than half of the black population have actually registered to vote let alone vote!

No, im just taking it as read, the same way you, and numerous other people on here do , that white people only vote for mcccain because he is white, why else would he change allegiance from republican to democrat ?

You didn't read his statement then? He did say exactly why.

As I highlighted earlier, Powell is not a bread and butter die hard republican.

He was offered posts by both parties. He obviously chosed the REpublicans because the fact they would win and/or better job.

He is generally liberal minded.

And he was severly shafted by Bush! So he probably owes little loyalty to the Republicans.

For all we know he has been offered a tasty little job:thumbsup:

The key word is average. Of course there are some white people who are poor, and black people who are rich. The guys you mention would probably be better off voting for Obama anyway.

I don't think I've said anything even remotely like that. And if I did come across that way then it is not what I meant.

So Bushy, are you also suggesting Lieberman is voting McCain because he's white? After all, Lieberman is a Democrat and he's white... So he must be endorsing McCain due to the colour of his skin yes?

That wasnt what i said and you know it,that is what you and others of a similar political persuasion like to imply, that anyone white who lives in a southern state is voting for mcccain purely because they are a cross burning redneck.
