The stereotypical Brazilian football club plays attacking, free-flowing football and shows little patience to any manager that can’t deliver it. Corinthians have broken the mould on both counts – and it’s led to unprecedented and completely unexpected success.

It was fast approaching midnight but, except for one tiny corner – from where a hardened gaggle of Fluminense fans had seen their side take a 0-1 lead almost two hours previously – the Arena Corinthians remained completely full.

The referee had long since put the whistle to his lips, but those dressed in black and white were going nowhere. How could they? They had just seen their beloved Corinthians turn the game on its head, winning 3-1 and thus securing the club’s seventh Brazilian title.

I thought they just took their name from the Corinthians but it looks like they have an affinity similar to Juventus fans with Notts County. Has anybody actually told the Brazilians that it's only half the club? (they merged with the Casuals)

I think, but don't quote me, they did take the name from the Casuals, because they were always called Casuals. I could be wrong, but whatever, a lot of history between countries there.

Yes well and truly stepped outside of his comfort zone, in no doubt paid for cushty hotels / apartments / houses and having everything he needs at his beckon call.

I'd be more impressed if say, he was 19 year olds, moved to London for work, lived in a house share with people he did not know and only just about made ends meet because that was the only way onto the career ladder at the time. Then I'd be more impressed

No, not really not when everything is laid on for you. Plenty of 20 year olds fight in wars, go travelling, emigrate without the safety cushion of professional football clubs behind them.

The lad seemed to have a shockingly bad attitude, when he was with us, then followed that up with getting convicted of homophobic abuse, and later threatening to beat up a Dutch journalist - he's not an easy chap to LIKE.

But, hats off - for a guy with limited talent, that is a really interesting career. It would be easy for such a player to churn out 400 games for Rotheram, Bolton or Leyton Orient dropping from the Championship to League Two over the years, with a spell at Haringey Borough at the end.

Instead, he's lived and played in eight countries, on four continents, playing for one of very biggest clubs in each (Galatasary / Feyenoord / Celtic / Olympiacos / Corinthians).

I'd imagine he'd need the help of a decent ghost-writer, but there's an interesting book, right there.
