Back in the early nineties I was quite naughty. Every weekend used to consist of taking E's, Speed, Acid etc... I did this for about 4 years and at around the age of 23 my body said ok No more, its time to stop. My brain was screwed and I looked like a peice of shit. I was about 10 stone. These days I now get high on life, and the odd glass of Wine.

I hear lots about old friends, who I refuse to get back in touch with or avoid on purpose because they snort Cocaine on a regular basis. I find this seedy.

I also find this kind of sad that they do this. I dont want anything to do with this shit anymore this is why I avoid them at all costs, which makes me look right a complete arsehole when they try to stay in contact.

Why do people do this shit. What I find worrying is that Cocaine is now the choice of drug which in the end can have devasting effects on both your mental and physical health.

I know I was no angel but I knew when to stop.

What should I do about some of the old friends, I really feel like telling them to get a life and get off the coke?

Not everyone is able to say enough is enough. You should be a friend and help out where you can.

I don't think you can really tell them what to do. They'll find out for themselves. Normally takes a bad experience to bring it home.

here and there
cos it's very nice if you are able to have a dabble now and again without slumping into a habit.

Why indeed! Artificial highs must give artificial lows.

Way out west
I was chatting with someone yesterday who works with stroke victims, some of whom were in their late 20's and early 30's, I had thought it was something that only affected older people. It turns out that heroin use can cause a stroke, something I had never known about, I just thought that it screwed your veins.

I guess it is everyone to their own, many people use recreational drugs on a regular basis with no ill effects whatsoever, others are killed by their first ecstasy tablet.

I remember being told a story by a teacher at school (miss Allchin, for those who went to Steyning) about her time working with drug addicts in London in the 70's. She was called with a colleague to assist a junkie who had overdosed in the bogs at Picadilly, they needed to give him an injection to try and keep him alive long enough to make it to hospital. They tried to find a vein that could take an injection, but all the regular choices were shot to pieces, in the end they had to inject into his testicles. I don't know whether he lived or died, I can remember little of what I learned at school, however that lesson served as a good indication of what drug abuse can lead to. Extreme maybe, shocking and over the top possibly, but it put me off.

Did a fair bit of coke myself over the weekend and had a right old laugh. But got to say I felt like utter shite yesterday. Ups and downs, I suppose, like any other narcotic, booze included.

Each to their own I guess. Certainly is a lot more commonplace these days and I dabble now and again.. but I know what you're saying, seen some of my mates on it more regularly and it's not always a good look. And yeah, it sometimes does make me a misery guts after - but then I get that with booze too.

Can be a dirty business but it's occasionally a laugh so I'll be back no doubt..

Drugs was never something i felt the need for - playing football on every Saturday was a big enough high for me.

The world would be a better place without them.

I've got a dreadfully addictive personality, I know I do, so I simply stayed away from drugs completely, because I couldn't be sure I could stop if I ever started.

It helped knowing that a mates ex-girlfriend died when we were in our mid-teens, that proved a fairly big wake-up call, but I never really knew her, so I think it's more to do with knowing myself, knowing what I can do, can't do and therefore what to avoid.

Don't miss what you've never had and all that, never felt the need to experiment.

I think i am in the same company as yourself - i once used to gamble on the fruit machines untill i lost my whole weeks wages in a hour or so and i hadn't even paid my parent their rent that week- to go a whole week when your just 18 without going out was enough for me to quit the gambling.

I said I was not perfect but this was over 12 years ago that I seriously gave up, and I still here of people I used to know taking Cocaine on a regualar basis these days.

Fine, people are free to do what they want with their life, however its a bit sad when these people I used to know still need to take a line of powder every weekend. For fucks sake get on your bike and take some exercise.

I have seen what Cocaine does to people as well, it has the same effect as speed where people immediately become your best buddy and people generally talk about a load of shit. Its all BULLSHIT, because once you come down your not interested in talking to these people or you wondered why you did what you did?

I also consider Cocaine a very seedy drug. I am scared for todays users, not only can it lead to heart attacks in later life I also think it can cause strokes and it 100% definately causes depression.

Yep same here. Even tho im only 19 next week never have seen the need for drugs, saw what it to do to a couple of mates and decided id never do it. Same with smoking it gave my nan a heart attack when I was about 12 and that was enough for me never to start.

Saying that I will have plenty of booze at the weekends.

My wife is a Nurse and she said the newer strains of 'weed' are doing as much damage as stuff such as LSD did back in the 1960s. It's basically making people psychotic - and it doesn't take that much. She's got several lurid tales of men (it always seems to be men) in their twenties who are incontinent, gibbering wrecks.

EDIT: Section removed after talking to person involved.

That is one scary story Brovian. I find it worrying that Cocaine seems to be socially exceptable, that we have a no worries attitude towards it these days.

Look at the amount of celebritites that take Cocaine on a regular basis and yet our kids, families all look up to them for one reason or another?

Also think the amount of people who are behind the wheel of a car under the influence of cocaine today or over the weekend, this is scary.

They are not only risking their own life but yours as well. Cocaine breeds false confidence in cars ie I am now a formula one driver.
